About Me

So! We are Marie and Michael, sharing life together for quite some time now. After years of moving around, we decided to move back to the city we fell in love in and with : the amazing Granada.
We live at the foot of the Alhambra palace, with a hairy roommate named Nuestra Gata del Pilar. She is a free loader with a real big temper. Michael is originally from the suburbs of Los Angeles, with Mexican-American background, and I am from the Southwest of France, with Vietnamese heritage. The cat is a pure street of Andalucía's breed.
I - Marie - started my journey with couchsurfing nearly 20 years ago. I received more than 100 guests in 15 different apartments I was living in, in 5 different countries. I surfed more than a hundred couches in 10 different countries. Couchsurfing, especially when traveling solo, influenced significantly who I am today.
After spending years as an art and film educator, I now work as a coordinator for cultural/arts projects. In parallel I translate and interpret for art centers. Michael works as a copy editor and proofreader, editing texts on astronomy, laws, and for NGOs.
Dogs may be my favorite thing in the world, especially the ones that look like messed-up sheep. I wear a lot of lipstick and feel quite radical when it comes to feminism. I also love swearing.
Cocteau Twins, Kate Bush, Philip Glass and film soundtracks are among my favorites. I am a huge movie enthusiast. About movies: • favorite shot in Documenteur by Agnès Varda • favorite kiss in Alice doesn't live here anymore • favorite fight scene in True Romance
My husband Michael loves cooking Mexican-American meals inspired by his family's receipes, while listening to potcasts on American society. When he laughs, he puts his hand to his heart. He has a passion for American folk history, and his favorite artists range from Jonathan Richman to Bob Dylan, Nina Simone, Prince and Paul Simon. Michael is hilarious, witty and very much near sighted.
Together we love to swim in the Mediterranean sea, watch clever movies, read children books and eat chips. We are quite social animals and love to spend time with friends, chating about what's going on in the world. When travelling , you'll find us hanging around historic landmarks, farmers market, charity shops, bookstores and museums.
Our home is a safe place for the LGBTQA+ community, and if you are a womxn traveling on your own, we can stand as your backup plan if you don't feel comfortable with your current host.
