About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to see the world clearly and be a good human

ABOUT ME

Urban cyclist who enjoys math, beekeeping, yoga, swimming in the sea, the sauna, and gardening.
Mother of two awesome grown kids.
Good food and clean air are important to me. My friends and the great outdoors are my lifelines.
I've been a very fortunate couch surfer (before there was couch-surfing) in many countries. So I figure it's a Goes-around-Comes-Around kind of activity: it's good to host travelers and make them feel at home. Wellington is an awesome place to visit and live.
We have the sea and the mountains, a peaceful community, a mild climate, wind that will pull the stuffing out of anything, and a vibrant culture good for everything.
My place is tiny but beautiful.

PHILOSOPHY

The Golden Rule works pretty well for me - Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. I like the individual differences people have, and the common themes that bind us together.
Also, as John Robinson of Wellington says "The need to protect the environment and redirect society away from consumerism is a cause to live for." Stop shopping!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host surfers here in Wellington occasionally. I rarely answer requests because we are a busy family and the kids come first.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

One awesome visit to Salt Lake City, surfed with a another yogi/cyclist/spiritual seeker. Before that, all my couch surfing was informal and impromptu.

Interests

Birds of all kinds, bicycle trips, New Zealand art, environmental health of all kinds, weather of all kinds, people of most backgrounds, good books, music, research, drama, documentaries and action movies. Beauty.

Music, Movies, and Books

The Paper is my absolute favorite funny movie. Moonstruck, the Deerhunter, Monique (French), Common Thread (French), Aura (Chilean), God of War and Jack of Hearts (French) are all favourite movies I could see many times. The Corporation was well done, Hotel Rwanda was amazing, too many good movies to write them all down.
Music: Sola Rosa (Kiwis), Be Good Tanyas, Fat Freddy's Drop, Phoenix Foundation, the Black Seeds, Natasha Atlas, Ofra Haza, Wailin Jennies, Joan Armatrading, Sam Phillips, Kate Bush, Annie DiFranco, Little Feat...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I rode 300 miles solo on my bicycle from Anchorage Alaska to Valdez. It was so magical, so awe-inspiring, I would love to do it every year!
Dinner on the beach with my favourite family, a nice fire and a moon that pulled waves onto the rocky shore.

Teach, Learn, Share

Environmental health, safe food/land/water. Nutritional adventures.
Inspiring bicycle rides and safe cycling skills.
Ways to live lower on the food chain. Composting waste materials.
Meditation. Yoga.
Nutrition. Dietary/exercise changes for lifestyle, philosophical or athletic pursuits.
After 15 years as an expat, I'm still learning about people's perception of America from outside. The Bush years were hard to live through out here!
Where we are heading in the global and metaphysical world.
The divide between science and belief - whether real or imagined, is something I bridge regularly.
I would really like to learn how to do a flip turn at the pool like the competitive swimmers do!
I am usually happy to play backgammon, cribbage, frisbee and cards. No game beats Chinese Checkers.
I like quiet outdoor activities like gardening, berry picking, mushroom hunting, canoeing, sailing, skiing, swimming, hiking and kite flying.
I find all religion fascinating but prefer Buddhism to all other organised faiths.
