About Me

I grew up in small-town, rural Ohio. I was lucky enough to have grown up in a place that allowed me plentiful access to nature and open spaces. My family and I would travel around to different areas of the U.S. each summer camping, hiking, and generally just exploring. Throughout my childhood and into my high school years I spent much of my time outside, getting involved in various forms of outdoor recreation such as hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking. After graduating from high school I headed to The Ohio State University with an undecided major. After a year of going to school I decided that I wanted to study what I love: the outdoors. Thus I began my academic career studying environmental science with a specialization in ecosystem restoration.
My college career helped to shape my interests through class work, student organizations, and general involvement in my community. Throughout college I developed a true love and appreciation for both the environment and people. My time post-graduation has been spent trying to bridge the gap between both people and the environment in order find fulfilling work and a career.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am currently finishing up my internship with the Rocky Mountain Conservancy in Estes Park, CO. Rather than heading straight back to Ohio and sitting around while I job search, I am staying out West and splitting my time between traveling and applying for work.

Music, Movies, and Books

My music choice, of course, depends upon my mood; however, my general go-to music type is folk-indie. Some of my favorite artists include Josh Garrels, Tallest Man on Earth, José Gonzalez, Radical Face, Shakey Graves, and Bon Iver. I guiltily love music that gives me all the feels.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I conducted independent research in Peru looking at how soil properties can have an effect on coffee quality. It was one of the most challenging, but rewarding experiences of my life.
