Join Couchsurfing to see Lucia Kowhai’s full profile. It’s free!
Mission objective: Investigate the complete continent of South America and retain all information.
I would describe myself as Lucia i guess... lol
That would be: A kiwi who is wandering, with no exact direction other then to learn, to explore and to discover. Whether that be people, places, ideas, money making tactics, food, tight rope walking, more food, history, different cultures... I am always up for a challenge and interested in anything I do not know.
I am also convinced that a couple of glasses of rum will fix any cold. I am a firm believer that if you feel ill, 90% of that sickness is just a placebo affect of your state of mind. After much research, I have found the best medicine is to get out of bed, get dressed, grab a cocktail and go out and have fun! (I have researched this for a while now and can create evidence) :)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I am often wwoofing so do not use couch surfing as much as I could be. Although, it's a fantastic way to meet interesting people and share knowledge.
My Couch Surfing experience.
Once upon a time, I lived in Wellington, in a house I shared with 3 friends. One day my flatmates and I decided we would like to own a couch. So we proceeded down to the Salvation Army and bought a BEAUTIFUL red couch set. A 3 seater and a 2 seater set that could be placed together to create 1 gigantic, long, 5 seater couch.
So we carried this couch up the 160 something steps to our house and set it up very nicely in our living room.
For a while, all was well. But after a few weeks we realised our couch was enjoying our company during the day, but at night time it must be extremely lonely. We decided something had to be done.
I am interested in new things every day.. slightly scattered i guess.
At the moment I am learning to walk the slack line and hoping to get good enough to have a 2 person, fire-walking-stick joust on the line.
I am learning Spanish and am interested in learning about and exploring as much of south and central america as possible (and Spain, I love Spain too). I am also hoping to successfully master the art of sustainable travel. Environmentally yes, but I feel economically sustainable is easier to master. I am wwoofing, making and selling jewelry, hitchhiking and I see dumpster diving as an adventure! (well.. sometimes).
- dumpster diving
- scuba diving
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
A friend and I managed to sneak into Machu Piccu. We had the whole of Machu Piccu to ourselves and the full moon. Incredible and beautiful experience! - Then seeing the other side of the scale: bus load, after bus load, after bus load, of people with expensive cameras and tour guides arriving from 7am in the morning... eeeh!
Some of my other favorite moments have been a week long hitchhiking mission from San Pedro de Atacama, down to Santiago, Chile. Riding for 12 hours on a cargo canoe down the Rio Napa, into the jungle in Ecuador. And my 5 weeks wwoofing at La Donaira in Andalucia, Spain.
Teach, Learn, Share
I am currently learning Spanish, how to walk a slack line and to play fire staff. I am also learning how and creating jewelry out of wire, feathers, beads, shells and anything else I happen to find.
I am always keen to trade knowledge, skills, recipes, ideas, languages...
