Hi, my name is Lucy. I'm a recent university graduate just starting out a career in formal and non-formal youth education. I love learning but also teaching, and I especially enjoy working with young people and helping them to develop their skills.
I am a big fan of history and language learning (it's even what I studied at university) and I absolutely love meeting new people, hearing new stories, exploring new places and cultures, and learning to see life from new angles.
When I'm not working or on the road, I love to swim, hike and just generally be active. I'm often found walking in the woods near my house, working in my vegetable garden, or cooking for my family and friends and I usually have music on as I do so (even if it's just in my head). I'm always looking to pick up new recipes and song recommendations from the people I meet.
I'm quite an energetic and a curious person, who loves to get stuck into life and try new things.

I love to explore new places and meet new people, but I don't want to just 'visit' a place, I want to live there, be a part of its fabric, get to know people, and learn more about some of its hidden histories/ stories/ treasures that don't make the top 10 on Tripadvisor. In previous summers, I've spent time abroad working as an au pair, or a summer camp counsellor, or helping at schools, and I've loved the wide range of experiences that staying with local people has helped me to have, and many of them have become firm friends that I am still in touch with. Whilst it's always lovely to see new things and visit exciting spots, some of my best memories from travelling have been the evening conversations, cooking lessons or local walks with the people I've stayed with so I love the idea of couchsurfing as a site that enables just such opportunities.

I think the most random travel experience I ever had was when I was volunteering at an animal shelter in rural France and ended up giving a goat a manicure, which is a lot easier said than done.
