About Me

Australian drifting through Europe meeting people and seeing things. I tired of my corp job so I'm taking the chance to expand my horizons or some other cliché.

I'm nerdy, left-wing as hell and unendingly curious. I'm a mathematician at heart but gave up the academic life for having a 'real job' before 30. It turned out that 'real' job means staring at numbers and finding evidence for politicians to ignore. Who knew? (read: analyst, public service, 'evidence based policy' usually just means people asking for evidence and bending it to suit. I'm not jaded!)

I keep an open mind about things and always try to check my privilege and bias.

Also, aside from all of those dry things I like to talk, drink, walk, dance and explore.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet people to share experiences with.

Interests

List is incomplete. I am generally curious about most things. If I wanted to be a wanker I'd describe my (formal and informal) education as bohemian but really I just read a lot. While I'm not a sporty person I enjoy walking and climbing things.

Music, Movies, and Books

Anything with a dark sense of humour.

Books wise I try to read a bit of everything (with varied success). My favourite authors are probably Haruki Murakami, Vonnegut and Becky Chambers if I had to choose.

Also trash fantasy because I had to fill my chronic insomniac childhood nights with something.

Music: alt rock and punk rock mostly these days with the odd bit of prog metal and chilled electronic mixed in. My favourite album of all time is Songs for the Deaf by Queens of the Stone Age.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moshed with people who I didn't share a language with. It's amazing how the comraderie bridges the gap.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can fill all of your mathematical needs! I used to teach maths so I guess that's on offer. I also know quite a bit about public policy and data if that interests anyone.

What I Can Share with Hosts

My analytical view of all things that totally doesn't get annoying after five minutes.

I may also be able to pass on my skills with self-deprecating humour.

Countries I’ve Visited

Belgium, France, Ireland, Japan, Netherlands, United Kingdom

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia
