About Me

Currently in graduate school studying materials science. When I'm not participating in the scientific endeavor, I can be found spending my time reading/learning about other languages, walking with my dog (Leo), or enjoying conversations and libations with my friends.

About LEO the dog:

If I could, I would bring Leo everywhere with me! He is a 95 lbs mixed breed (perhaps some German Shephard... you can take your own guess!) He is a very good boy... just turned 5.

Leo hails from a Humane Society in Bainbridge, GA. Needless to say, he is a real mountain dog now. Leo has a great temperament: he doesn't bark at people or other dogs, and is very playful. He is best with smaller, high energy dogs. His tongue is exceptionally long.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am always interested in meeting new people and gaining a new perspective on the world we live in. I learned of couchsurfing from my brother, who has shared many great stories about his adventures. I am looking forward to my own adventures and stories to share!

Interests

I grew up with a combination of science and art... my mother is a performance artist, my father a musician, and my brother a world traveler. I was the blacksheep in the sense that I liked math! But, I can talk about many things as a result.

Some past-time interests include: reading/learning about other languages, being a total comic book nerd, and trying to breathe through the general existential angst which I think most people reading the news feel.

Food is glorious... in particular, nothing is more beautiful than eggplant.

Music, Movies, and Books

Proud of myself this year. Made it a goal to keep on top of reading. I've read some very good non-fiction and fiction. Love to talk about books with people.

I need to up my movie game. Personally, I choose comic book movies over anything else. I rely on other people to point me at different genres! Kind of the same deal with music. Always up for recommendations. :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Had the chance to study abroad in Iquitos, Peru. Working with a local non-profit that advocated for sustainable living for the low-income families through out the city. DESAP (Sustainable Development of the Peruvian Amazon) teaches family to maintain gardens and raise guinea pigs to provide food for themselves and their families. An AMAZING organization. Also taught acting games to little kids (in Spanish!).

Have some good stories from this trip as well... key words: malaria pill, nose, tree with spikes. Ask me about it!

Teach, Learn, Share

I believe education is a universal right. It allows for people of all shapes, sizes, orientations, religions, to share with one another. Being able to see the world from another person's point of view is a gift, for it allows us to re-examine our own definitions that we sometimes cling too tightly to.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I like to think I have an interesting perspective on the world we live in... and believe that other people do too! I grew up in a very artistic household (mother is a perform/director/writer and father a musician) so I love artistic ventures, but I've always had an affinity for science and math. I know how to have fun, and when to relax. I'm like taking chances and don't mind going outside my comfort zone.

Countries I’ve Visited

Canada, Italy, Peru
