About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To keep the "nowness" in my now.

ABOUT ME

I'm a man in love with the world and in love with my wandering life! After leaving my job as a Japanese-English translator in 2007, I set out to travel around the world, just to see if I could and just to feel how truly large it is. My journey has demanded I change myself, open my heart, and trust in the humanity of the people I meet. The road goes ever on and on, and I must follow it if I can.

PHILOSOPHY

I believe we are all still learning, still naive, still trusting, still hopeful about something in this wide and beautifully complex world, so it's best to be humble and listen carefully, and not to judge too fast or too harshly. Life is an endless unfolding, and, if we let it be, an endless process of discovery, both in our own heart and in the hearts of others. Don't be afraid. Have faith. Hold on.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I often meet people who are simply kindhearted and caring and offer me a place to stay for a night or two without ever having heard of couchsurfing. I do my best to encourage them to sign up and share themselves even more fully.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Once, on the island of Shikoku, in Japan, I was hitchhiking, and a wonderful local woman not only picked me up and drove me all the way to my destination, she also invited me into her home to meet her family, cooked me a delicious supper, and stayed up late relating stories of her own adventurous youth! The futon she lent me was the softest bed I've slept in in years!
In Turkey, I've couchsurfed with so many people it's hard to remember, but I think my favorite was when the local police department in Derinkuyu let me pitch my tent in the yard of their station! They fed me tea and biscuits and spent hours laughing with me (which is the best memory of all!).

Interests

Reading. Philosophy. Living a life of intuition and beauty. Laughter. Poetry. Japanese. Exploratory travel. Camping. Skiing. Cycling. Keeping a humble and open heart. Listening. Loving. Sharing. Giving as openly and freely of what I have as possible.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love movies, music, and books so much it is difficult to even begin to list them here. I'll have to do this section later!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Fallen in love with someone who fell in love with me at the same instant. It does happen. It is real.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach people Japanese, English, Karate, and some Capoeira. I'd like to learn to cook a wider variety of food from different countries and cultures.

Countries I’ve Visited
