Music, Movies, and Books
Music, for me, has always been a source of comfort and joy, and I find myself drawn to pop music the most. Its upbeat rhythms and catchy melodies never fail to lift my spirits. Whether I’m relaxing at home or driving around, pop songs provide the perfect soundtrack to my day, helping me feel energized and connected to the world around me.
When it comes to movies, Everest stands out as one of my all-time favorites. The breathtaking cinematography, coupled with the gripping true story of survival and determination, leaves a lasting impression on me. It’s a reminder of the incredible strength of the human spirit and the power of perseverance, no matter how impossible the odds seem.
As for books, The Secret by Rhonda Byrne has had a profound impact on my life. The concept of the law of attraction and the idea that positive thoughts can lead to positive outcomes really resonated with me. It inspired me to think more consciously about my goals and the energy I put out into the world, reminding me that with the right mindset, anything is possible.
These three—music, movies, and books—are not just pastimes for me, but they have shaped the way I see the world, helping me stay motivated, hopeful, and inspired every day.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
As someone who grew up far from Lombok, I never imagined that one day this island would become my home. Throughout my life, I always felt like a traveler—constantly moving, searching, and seeking my place in the world. But life has a way of surprising you, and it was in Lombok that I found something I never expected: a true sense of belonging.
When I first arrived in Lombok, everything felt new and unfamiliar. The island's natural beauty—the crystal-clear waters, towering mountains, and the peaceful atmosphere—welcomed me, but I also knew that I was at the beginning of a new chapter. Starting over meant more than just settling into a new place; it meant rebuilding my career, finding new friends, and establishing connections in a community I didn’t yet know.
At first, it wasn’t easy. The challenges of adapting to a new culture, finding a job, and making new friends were overwhelming at times. There were moments when I questioned if I had made the right decision. But as time went on, something extraordinary happened. I began to see the beauty in the process—the slow yet steady steps of integration. I learned to appreciate the small victories: landing a job that aligned with my passion, building meaningful relationships, and getting to know the island’s rich culture.
Lombok has become my home, not just because of its breathtaking landscapes, but because it has given me the chance to truly live. My career has flourished here, and the work I do not only fulfills me professionally but also connects me with incredible people. Through my job, I’ve met colleagues who have become more like friends and mentors, offering guidance and support as I navigate this new chapter of my life.
The relationships I’ve built in Lombok have been one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey. The people here, with their warmth and openness, have welcomed me like family. I've created bonds that go beyond friendship—bonds that make me feel rooted, despite being miles away from where I was born. Together, we've shared experiences, celebrated successes, and supported each other through life's ups and downs.
Looking back, I can see how much I've grown since I first arrived. Lombok has taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of embracing change. It’s here that I’ve discovered a balance between my career ambitions and my personal happiness, and I’ve come to understand that home isn’t just a place—it’s where you feel truly connected.
This island, with all its challenges and rewards, has shown me that being a traveler doesn’t mean constantly moving forward without ever stopping. Sometimes, being a traveler means finding a place where you can settle, grow, and make a meaningful life. For me, that place is Lombok. And here, I’ve found not just a home, but a new version of myself.
Teach, Learn, Share
My time in Lombok has been transformative, not just as a traveler but also as a teacher. Teaching here has been a deeply rewarding experience, as it has allowed me to connect with students from diverse backgrounds and share knowledge in a way that goes beyond textbooks. It's not just about delivering lessons; it's about building relationships, understanding different perspectives, and fostering an environment where both my students and I grow.
In the process of teaching, I’ve learned some of life’s most important lessons. Lombok, with its serene beauty and resilient people, has taught me patience, empathy, and the value of simplicity. As I explored the island and interacted with locals, I began to appreciate the beauty in the everyday—the quiet moments by the beach, the warmth of a simple conversation, and the deep sense of community here.
Traveling around Lombok further deepened my understanding of life. The island’s stunning landscapes, from the towering mountains to the tranquil beaches, reminded me that life is a journey, not a destination. The challenges I faced along the way—both in teaching and traveling—taught me that growth often comes from stepping out of my comfort zone, being open to new experiences, and embracing uncertainty.
In the end, teaching in Lombok wasn’t just about imparting knowledge to others; it was about learning from the island, its people, and my experiences. It reminded me that the true essence of life lies in human connection, personal growth, and the willingness to learn from every situation.
