Overview
About Me
Hi! I'm Ly-Shan, a student from Glasgow. I love travelling, exploring new places and meeting new people! I love listening to all their stories and am constantly pleasantly surprised by the kindness and warmth of strangers.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I want to meet new and interesting people who share the same passions as me! I don't just want to see places the way tourism packages it- I want to see it authentically (As much as is possible from my limited perspective, of course). I think that's only possible with some help from a local. I'd love to hear everything about your culture and really get to know the spirit of where ever I visit.
Interests
I am a vegetarian and I'm always searching for yummy vegetarian/vegan food where-ever I go! I love a good drink too on a night out. Beer gardens or dive bars are my favourite. I also enjoy going to art museums or any sort of art gallery! Seeing the great outdoors, hiking, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books
I like lots of films but recently I've been really into noir films. The two most recent films I've watched and enjoyed have been In the Mood for Love and Punch-drunk love (My personal opinion: PTA is somehow a Big Hollywood Director but yet still criminally underrated). Recently watched the Big Lebowski which is also neo-noir, which I had no idea before. Sorry to Bother You was also such a trip! Loved every minute.
I've been into shoegaze lately, bands like Slowdive and Beach House. I'm also in love with Damon Albarn. I can't tell if I think Blur genuinely made good music or he's just got really pretty eyes. Been into 80s disco/alt/new wave, some 70s folk, lil bit of neo-psychedelia. hip hop and rap too of course, especially of the jazz persuasion. I cycle thru genres fast and hard. Ask me what I've been listening to recently!
Currently in a bout of reading everything and anything I can get my hands on about Deconstruction and how it informs political resistance (Just finished Haraway, working on Spivak).
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I'm hiked around yosemite with absolutely no game plan, no map, no means of boiling hot water (even though we brought cup noodles for food, genius), no campsite. Thankfully we met this really cool group of people from LA who led us out of the woods when we got lost, adopted us and let us use their campsite.
Less embarrassingly, I've climbed up to tiger's nest in Bhutan!
What I Can Share with Hosts
I cook (pretty decently, I can try my hand at making some Singaporean local food or other typical Asian fare)! I clean! I can share my sometimes sardonic sometimes completely nonsensical humour with anyone who will have it! I can share music and films and other cultural recommendations! I can also draw and will be more than happy to leave you a little sketch as a souvenir (~:
