Couchsurfing allows that rare opportunity to actually immerse yourself in a place, a culture or an environment in a short term timescale. Meeting locals; making friends; getting the chance to see spots that perhaps not every tour company shoves tourists at are experiences that are made all the more possible through this unique platform.

And also, in all honesty, with budget concerns (that I, like a lot of travellers have) couchsurfing will allow me the chance to see places and have experiences that I may not otherwise be able to have. Making me feel all the more fortunate for them as it was purely the kindness of strangers that allowed them to happen.
