About Me

I have just returned from an amazing year living in Prague and I'm trying to hang on to as much of the international as I can - meeting people from other countries, watching foreign films, learning languages, and eating all of the food.

I work as a support worker with people with mental health problems, and I'm studying counselling part time too. I'm really passionate about mental health and hope to make a difference with my work but I'm still not sure exactly what I want to do "when I grow up".

I live with my family in Sheffield so I'm not able to host most of the time (please see 'My Home' for more info). I first moved to Sheffield nine years ago so I'd be happy to show you what I know of the city and to discover and try new things too!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I first got into couchsurfing to meet new people when I lived in France. I like to use it as a way of meeting interesting people with great stories as well as to have a less touristy experience when I travel. It has helped me a lot to overcome my socially awkward Britishness, I will let you judge how successful I've been.

Interests

Music, films, conversations, beautiful scenery, trying new food, puzzles and games, learning languages, train journeys, salsa dancing, trying to learn korfball, reading books in coffee shops, meeting all of the dogs.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love music and enjoy pretty much any genre.

I prefer unpredictable arthouse films or classics. Some of my favourites are Eternal Sunshine, American Beauty, Casablanca and Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain. I love going to the cinema and try to support independent ones. That said, sometimes there's nothing better than giving your brain a break with a cheesy action film, Top Gun and Star Wars being my personal favourites.

Sadly I don't have much time for novels at the moment with work and studies. My favourite recent reads are Love In The Time of Cholera and Americanah. I will always love Jane Austin and Harry Potter, if that makes me a basic bitch then so be it.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Sleeping outside on a farm in a hammock on a volcanic island in Lake Nicaragua

Teach, Learn, Share

I can tell you where to get the best coffee in Sheffield, and where you should and should not eat breakfast.

I speak pretty good English, moderately good French, and bits of other languages very badly. Always keen and happy to practise :)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can show you around the wonderful city of Sheffield, recommend places to go, and help you decipher the local dialect (although I'm not a native!) I can cook exactly five things well so I can even feed you.
