ABOUT ME

I am curious about life, enjoy encountering different people and different cultures. I enjoy languages and have studied a few different ones though I am rather out of practice since living back in South Africa. I can be both quiet and reflective and loud-laughing extrovert. As Antoine de Saint-Exupery (author of The Little Prince) said: "I know but one freedom, and that is the freedom of the mind". I aspire to live lightly and deeply and to discover for myself what really is truth.
I have been passionate about travelling since I was a small child looking through National Geographic magazines. Travelling gives me a broader understanding on what it is to be human.
I grew up in South Africa during the apartheid years. This was a razor-edged gift, and perhaps where my passion for truth and humanitarianism began. I love my troubled motherland. I am committed to giving something positive to the country and to the world as far as I can in my small way.
I generally eat and live healthily though I am not fanatical about that.

PHILOSOPHY

Kindness is my most central philosophy.
I also like to give what I can wherever I am able to to take only what I need when it is offered - I believe in this way there can be be true abundance for everybody. I love it that couchsurfing follows this principle.
I am a student of Tibetan Buddhism : Kagyu lineage.

I may be able to offer a couch to somebody who wants to explore this quieter fringe of wilder Cape Town.

兴趣

I enjoy hiking in the mountains and wilderness around Cape Town. I love big wild spaces - they give space for my mind and heart to be huge too.
I enjoy the arts - fine art, music, dance and theater.
I draw enjoy dance.
I work in complementary health and am deeply interested in the complex and ever-changing expression of life that we are.
I was tamed by wild cats who now share my small apartment - they were very wild when they moved and the neighbourhood was trying to kill them so I reluctantly gave them refuge and a very beautiful relationship followed.
I enjoy meditation and spend at least a little time each day in meditating and a couple of weeks each year in retreat.

I enjoy a really diverse range of music from opera to psychedelic trance music and I love cellos and piano and unfortunately can't play them. Love really good classic style guitar. I enjoy world music, reggae, ambient chill, some rock music and contemporary pop.
I don't read too much as my eyes strain easily.
Enjoy art movies.
