About Me

CURRENT MISSION

build a base, then construct additional pylons

ABOUT ME

(Ah, the dreaded "about you" field.
It's still pretty much work in progress, expect lots of sand and signs, also pedestrian passage is on the other side of the road.)

It's hard to describe oneself as there's no experience of being someone else to compare it to ;) Anyway though I may be a bit shy initially I love intelligent (or downright silly!) conversations, and the world is such an interesting place that there's an unlimited supply of topics... From political views of a generation, through train speed limitations imposed by geography, mapping fruit fly's neural activity, quirky expressions in a foreign language to formation of solar systems -- yes, I basically find everything interesting.

I'm more of an introvert. We're not antisocial people! :) It's just that even if I enjoy time spent with other people it will still drain my "internal batteries", so usually I need a day or two a week when I just hermit out completely with a book/laptop/console or simply a cup of tea, and on the next day I can get all chatty again ;)

Couchsurfing photo compression gave me a scaryface. Why did it give me a scaryface? I don't have a scaryface :(

At the moment I'm staying at my friend's place in Stockholm until mid-February, so I have a couch (better yet, a whole child's room just for me, whee). What I need now is drinks. Especially multicolored teas. With sticks and bits of stuff floating in them!

PHILOSOPHY

"A cloud does not know why it moves in just such a direction and at such a speed, it feels an impulsion... this is the place to go now.
But the sky knows the reason and the patterns behind all clouds, and you will know, too, when you lift yourself high enough to see beyond horizons." (Richard Bach)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Even though I have this profile for a while, none yet... Well, that's going to change in the next few days!

Interests

Meditation and self-development, spirituality (as long as it's not dogma or Mine-Is-The-Best-Path type), alternative economical systems, geeky computery stuff (yes, that's quite broad), video games (trying to get back to the good habit ;), listening to other people talking about their passions, learning and discovering, and, well... almost anything, as stated in the "about me" above ;)

I love exploring new places, be they wild or urban... But don't be surprised if I won't pay much attention to a mountain or a skyscraper because I'm too busy admiring a moss patch o a well designed sticker ;)

Music, Movies, and Books

I like movies that take me away from the "regular" world, either by setting or simply the point of view. Or, even better, by generous doses of absurd. A horribly incomplete list:
2001, Battlestar Galactica (the new one), Doctor Who (as well), Dollhouse, Donnie Darko, Fight Club, Firefly, Futurama, Garth Marenghi's Darkplace, Ghost In The Shell, Hayao Miyazaki (everything), K-PAX, Kino's Journey, Interstate 60, Let The Right One In, Moon, Mozart And The Whale, MST3K, The Science of Sleep, Waking Life, What Dreams May Come, Wonder Showzen, Zombieland...

It's difficult for me to pinpoint my music preferences, as they are kind of nomadic, but some of the bands that I keep returning to are Fluke, The Knife, Boards of Canada, Lamb, Elsiane and Amethystium. Recently I've been nomading the likes of Alice in Videoland or The Sounds intertwined with Aes Dana and Makyo.

I'm kind of ashamed to say, but reading has recently taken a back seat (possibly even the one that's stained and has all this gum stuck underneath). Anyway on the first place is definitely Richard Bach, and behind him in no particular order: Neil Gaiman (especially "Sandman"*), Terry Pratchett, Charles Stross, Orson Scott Card, Douglas Adams... and yeah, I left my bookshelf at home.

* So what that it's a comic book (or better yet, a graphic novel), that's still "reading!"
Also, Scott Pilgrim!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

It's an internal one, and it's basically impossible to explain in person, let alone on a website profile :)

Teach, Learn, Share

Well, I can help or teach you something about the above mentioned "geeky computery stuff".
Aside from that, I can show you some techniques to manage stress or negative emotions.

Learning some Swedish would be nice. Also pestering you about the precise meaning and flavor and etymology of every little word ;)
