ABOUT ME

It is always interesting, yes even challanging, to write a few essential sentences about who you are. The short version of such a description of me would basically tell that I am Maarten de Boer, a 24-year old Dutch student living in the center of Amsterdam. I just finished my Research Master in Political Science, and I am currently studying Russian (BA). I woud say that i have an infinite curiosity, that i am somebody who enjoys good conversations and who does not hestitate to participate in them as well. In case we have the opportunity to meet, it would be my pleasure to give a more elaborate description of the thoughts, feelings, ideologies and experiences which make up Maarten de Boer.

PHILOSOPHY

I personally really liked а quote of St. Augustine regarding traveling, as he argued that "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I enjoyed my first couchsurfing experience in summer of 2011, when I travelled with a friend through Ukraine and Russia. I can only say that we had a great time with our host. I enjoyed withnessing the life of 'locals' as well as sharing my own experiences and ideas. Moreover, I really like it to show people around in my own city, giving them a better insight in the life of a person from Amsterdam.

I am interested in literature, writing (all sorts of writing), international politics, news media, playing as well as watching soccer, (city) cycling, travelling, languages (I am currently studying Russian).

Master and Margarita by Michail Bulgakov, The Trial by Franz Kafka and the Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Standing on the World Trade Center in New York was amazing (even more as I was standing on the WTC three weeks before 9/11/01). Furthermore the mountains in the French Alps and in Georgia really impressed me.
