ABOUT ME

Hey you guys, I'm Macca (try saying Macarena) and I'm a 25 year old fashion, portrait and boudoir photographer from Singapore (@thisismacca)

Before I started on my gap year trip, I've only had five countries under my belt so far but I basically dropped my entire life like a hot potato back in 2014 and went backpacking across the world for a year before college started. I currently stand at 60 countries now so I'd say I've seen quite a fair bit.

Of many different occasions where I hosted people, the first was a German couple whom instantly became family to me.
Coincidentally, 6 of my other subsequent guests also happened to be German, if not Austrian, backpackers.
It seems that I have a yet-to-be-understood affinity with German speakers despite being absolutely terrible at the language.

Suffice to say, I'm so in love with them because of just how sweet they all were and I was absolutely devastated when they left.

So be it hosting or being hosted, I think we'll get along just fine.

Traveling, reading (as sedentary as that may sound)

Ultimate frisbee is my favourite sport ever.
I love running and used to run competitively.

Also really into rock climbing, camping, mountain biking, extreme sports, being put in difficult situations (a trait that I guess developed from my time in the military.)

Took an impulsive turn while I was in Sweden and decided to train all the way up to Bødo, Norway (just Google that and see how small it is) because I heard that the geomagnetic activity was going to be really high that day. If that wasn't already good enough, I then randomly met a German and a Swiss on the streets and spontaneously drove for an hour out to the hills in middle of nowhere chasing auroras.

Let's just say we caught an insane show lying on the car hood and roof through the night, all while braving the -30 odd degrees Norwegian winter complete with merciless howling winds. It was pretty great.

Well if you've always wanted to know more about Chinese culture (Us Singaporean Chinese are very different from the mainland Chinese!) or learn Mandarin, I'm trilingual (and trying to become at least quadrilingual - pentalingual at some point in my life) so I can definitely teach you some of that.

I would also be so delighted to learn about your language, culture, practices and how you live!
