About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Be excellent to each other and party on, dudes!

ABOUT ME

As a born-and-raised Minnesotan, I'm pretty sure I'll never be able to escape the stereotypes of Lake Wobegon. Yes, I can appreciate a good potluck, I can stand the taste of Grainbelt, and many of my sentences end with "Oh, yah."

When I'm not buried in a book, I can be usually found making a total mess of my tiny kitchen with food from my garden. Music and movies from the 60's are a weakness of mine and I have an embarrassing fondness of anything kitschy.

PHILOSOPHY

-Feminism, sex/body positivity, and gender politics
-The power of creativity in marginalized communities
-Incorporating avocados into every meal

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Willing to show people around Minneapolis: the bars, the parks, the museums, whatever. I have a strong belief in community learning and I value any opportunity I can to engage people in the support of small, interconnected neighborhoods.

Interests

Currently, I'm pursuing a degree in Media Writing at a Minneapolis-based private college . . . which means that I've paid way too much for classes and haven't learned nearly enough to exist in the real world yet.

Volunteering is important to me and I am currently an (unpaid) intern at a community development non-profit in the Seward neighborhood of Minneapolis. I also serve as a writing tutor for my college, as well as the News Editor for its weekly campus publication . . . this sounds like a resume, doesn't it? Sorry.

I've been cooking since I was able to hold a spatula and--after enough burnt bunt cakes, filleted fingers, and spoiled soups--I think I have a pretty good grasp on the basics. As a chef's assistant at the Mill City Farmer's Market, I've been forced to create some of the weirdest and most delicious food from our local farms (eggplant tacos, sweet potato and beet pizzas, etc.).

. . . just don't ask me how to poach an egg. For some reason, that shit is impossible for me.
