Hello CS community!

Since covid started (March 20) and I had to flew from India back to Portugal very quickly, I haven’t been using CS.

Now I’ve just arrived in Doha to be a volunteer in the FIFA Worldcup 22 for the following weeks, and I decided to reinstall this app so I can meet with other travels. The biography that I have below is not updated, but I will leave it for your information.

My name is Mafalda, I'm 31 and I’m a Sport Sciences and Physical Education graduate. I also have a specialization in Basketball.

I studied to be a Physical Education Teacher, but in the last years I worked in the military field (Portuguese Navy) as an officer “Higher Naval Technical” in the sports area from 2013 until last September 2019.

Although working in the Navy in the last 6 years, I'm also a basketball coach of youth teams, which is something that I really love to do. I coached a under-14 female team last season (2020/2021).

Now, before starting a new job as a physical education teacher in a school, I've decided to have a sabbatical year to travel, meet new people and have new experiences.

So far, I've planned to go go Asia for 3 months (February-May), volunteering in UEFA 2020 in Dublin (June) and volunteering in EUSA 2020 in Belgrade (July), and travel in the eastern side of Europe during the summer. I also plan to go to South American in the end of the year. Sounds like a good plan, right? Wish me luck!🤞

During the summer of 2017, I went to Cape Verde (Santiago Island) as a volunteer and it was a really good experience to open my mind and become more aware of (real) problems that others cultures face.

In the last three years, I've been participating in NGO called CISV (Children International Summer Village), a world-wide organization that also exists in Portugal (Lisbon). I participated in two summer camps (july 2018 in USA-Detroit and july 2018 Mexico-Mexico City) and It was amazing being with 12 different cultures for 28 days in the same camp, developing activities about peace education. I've been learning a lot with different cultures.

Sports have been part of my life since I remeber. As an athlete I was part of several basketball teams and i also play volleyball and futsal in university teams.

Nowadays I “just” go to the gym and run.

I love being with my friends and usually organize many activities with them.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

I'm in the CS community because I love the concept of offering a "couch" to travelers who want to know my city, with the advantage of meeting new people from different cultures and also to be an excellent way to train my English.
I believe it is the experience that makes us grow as human beings and the possibility to contact people with completely different life stories of mine is undoubtedly very enriching!
I hosted some travelers between 2013-2016 when I shared a flat with one of my biggest friends - Jaime - but then I moved to another place and it wasn’t possible to host someone. Now I’ve moved to my mother’s house in my hometown.
