About Me
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
Living with people from all over the world, I realised how much I appreciate a different point of view. From the smallest things, like dinner times, to serious moral conundrums it's fascinating how different other people's backgrounds are. I was originally into meeting international people just to have someone to play tourist with (when I lived abroad) but after making some amazing friends, I learned that when I reach out and try different things, I can really surprise myself.
I'm hoping to have people to explore with and maybe make more friends that live across time zones while I'm at it.
Interests
My biggest interests are definitely outdoor activities. I'm not a super intense about it but I like solid 2-4 day hiking trips and certainly feel like I've taken advantage of Vancouver's mountains in that sense. In another sense, snow sports I've done since I was a kid but for the past few years our local mountains have been hurting so only had a week or so in the interior mountains.
Indoors I love science and biology in particular. I've worked as a research assistant in a few lab settings and I'm about to start my graduate studies next fall - which I'm super excited for! Along those lines, I also enjoy talking about science; I volunteer at Science World and run biology-type activities for visitors.

Music, Movies, and Books
I'm pretty lacking in the movies department but I like reading much better and go through phases. Recently I was into young adult fiction again, and now I'm back on distopian/science-fiction type of detective novels (Caves of Steel, anyone?).
Music I'm pretty open to, I prefer alternative electronic music like Nicolaas Jaar and Chet Faker when I'm multitasking. I also enjoy the Cat Empire and Caravan Palace for a little bouncing around, though a few oldies from the classic rock pop up pretty often.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Last summer a group of ten friends got together and went on an epic canoe trip. It was UNREAL! It was about 10 days including driving out, but 7 days of full on canoeing, which I admit I didn't really know how to do until about day 3. There's a naturally-occuring awesomeness that is Bowron Lakes that are conviently in a square so you don't have to double back. Even when the lakes don't connect by a river, the portages are not too long, and we were super lucky with the weather.
Teach, Learn, Share
I would love to practice my French with some native speakers, I feel like I'm forgetting it over here. If anyone wants to practice some biology experiments I'm all over that, just let me know and I'll what I can come up with.
What I Can Share with Hosts
I can reveal the secret of what happened last Canada day (at Bowron Lakes)! Any questions about visiting Vancouver I'd be prepared to answer seeing as I worked with newcomers for almost two years helping them get comfortable in the city.
