About Me

ABOUT ME

Outgoing, fun loving, totally insane but happy, senager, get along great with younger travellers, curious, willing to try anything once, clean and respectful of other peoples space.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have travelled extensively, always staying in hostels, which I love because I have met so many wonderful people.
Next Christmas my daughter will be away so rather than spend the holidays alone, I want to fulfill a dream to spend the season in my favourite city, London.
I would like to take in as many Pantos, choir and organ concerts and theater productions as possible. Would be happy to buy tickets for you in exchange for hosting.
I really enjoy baking, especially at Christmas, and am a good cook, not gourmet, but reasonably varied.
I currently live in Coquitlam, just outside Vancouver, BC.
I am a grandmother to 4 beautiful girls, have a son and a daughter, grown and married. I am divorced.

Interests

Travel, travel and more travel. I live on a very small budget and then when I get some money ahead, I go on another adventure. Definitely not into hotels and coach tours, love to just jump on a tram and explore a new city, hang with the locals, drink local brew and get to know the real people, not the tourist traps.
I am intelligent, articulate, love to garden, fish, camp, hike (although that is now limited due to knee problem), cook and learn anything new.

Music, Movies, and Books

Enjoy all music except gangsta rap, it promotes a pretty hateful world. I listen to CBC here in Canada which hosts Indigenous, Francophone, classical and new Canadian music. I especially enjoy Classic Roch, symphony and choral music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I spent 3 months in Belize during which time I became friends with a number of amazing people. Emmeth Young is a local drummer and drum maker, he started and runs Drums not Guns in Punta Gorda which teaches street kids how to build and play djembe drums.
I also went out to a small atoll with the owner, an 82 year old long time Ecologist and Fisheries protection advocate. I caught barracuda and a king fish as well as smaller fish, and dove for conch and spiney lobster. We stayed in his very rustic cabin, which had cochroaches all over the ceiling from a recent hatch, and gheckos scampering up the walls to snack on them, a bit unnerving in the dark of night. It was so amazing seeing the stars from there, with no light pollution and close to the equator, so closer to the stars.
I attended local soccer matches, festivals and fundraisers, and had a wonderful time every day.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have learned rudimentary French, Spanish and Romanian so when I travel I can at least buy bread and milk, a bus ticket, say hello and carry on a very simple dialogue.
I helped out a friend whose mom is a stroke survivor, thus confined to a wheelchair, and speaks only Romanian, so I learned a bit of the language to communicate with her.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I am an accomplished baker, seamstress and gardener. I am an avid reader and interested in other people, science, history and architecture. I am a great partner for original Trivial Pursuit, or the Boomer Edition. I have a car so would be happy to show you my beautiful city.
