About Me

CURRENT MISSION

ABOUT ME

Hi! I'm Maija, a full-time student in international relations and have lived most of my life in Lapland. I might come across as socially awkward but new people, places and experiences are what life is all about for me.

PHILOSOPHY

This is a tricky one (and it's hard to write anything without sounding like a hippie). One of my guidelines is to go with your instinct - maybe it's risky, but that's how I've gotten to enjoy the best moments while both travelling & at home.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

After being idle for too long I decided to finally start hosting travellers coming to Rovaniemi. This far I've had only positive experiences, and can't wait to meet more new people through both surfing & hosting.

Interests

They change from time to time - politics, procrastination, painting, writing, great music. At the moment I'm mostly into travelling (surprise) and trying to learn more Arabic than just the basic greetings.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like almost all types of music ranging from progressive rock & evergreens to hip-hop & electro. All-time favourite artists include CMX, The National, Fiona Apple and Tom Waits to name a few.

Favourite authors are easier to list than single books - Charles Bukowski, Haruki Murakami, Rosa Liksom, Sofi Oksanen, Albert Camus, Leena Krohn, Chuck Palahniuk.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Moving to Glasgow without having visited the city before. After a year I returned to Finland, but I've never regretted the time spent in Scotland. It made me much more independent and I found out what I really want to study.

Countries I’ve Visited

Barbados, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom, United States

Countries I’ve Lived In

Finland, Turkey, United Kingdom
