Hey I'm Maja from Germany and I am currently studying in a small town in NRW, Germany. I graduated highschool in summer 2022 and decided to do a voluntary service in a school in Linares,Chile. There, I was working as a history teacher and I was giving free German lessons for interested students. Before coming back to Germany in October 2023 I was volunteering at UStreet Hostel in Washington DC. Although I started studying I'm looking forward to many new adventures in the future:)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm new to the couchsurfing community but have been told of the great experiences and benefits that come from it. Also I love to meet new people, specially when traveling and I really enjoyed spending time with other travelers in Hostels. I'm looking forward to host travelers from all over the world once I have my own place!

Interests

Let’s start with the obvious; TRAVELING!! I have always had a heart and ache for traveling. During the holidays I traveled from Patagonia to the very north of Chile. After that I crossed the border to Bolivia and spend some weeks there. I also had a fantastic time in Mendoza, Argentina and I hope that one day I can go back and see more of those beautiful landscapes. Before starting my journey in south America I took part in some youth exchanges in Europe which I think were the beginning of my wanderlust. I love to learn about new cultures,about their food,their art and history and their society in order to get a better understanding of our society in general. Now that I'm back in Germany I began to study social and political sciences & spanish.

Music, Movies, and Books

I love going to the movies and reading books!! I would say that my favorite movies are:
Vertigo, Shutter island annnd of course, the godfather;)
I like to read classics, just finished reading the picture of Dorian Gray and I discovered Bukowski and Kafka for me within the past months. I'm into every kind of music but I mostly enjoy "old" latin american music.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I hitchhiked with a friend from the Atacama desert (Chile) to the Amazon (Bolivia) and we arrived there just in time to experience the indigenous carnival in the jungle.That was an awesome and challenging experience because it was definitely out of my comfort zone at first.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share a good time for the few days that I'll spend at your place! I'm very clean, helpful and excited to get to meet all kinds of people around the world. My native languages are German and Spanish so if you want to practice your skills I can help you with that too ;)
It is very important for me that the hosts know that I appreciate their time in hosting me so if there is anything that I can help you with (baby/ dog- sitting, translations, plant caring, groceries etc.) I'd be happy to know in order to give something back🌼
