Hi, I'm Martin!

I'm a French professionnal freelance author-illustrator-painter. I've been working on children books, adult drawings, t-shirts, CD covers and much more.

I'm friendly and open-minded, curious about everything, especially if you have something that push you forward in life, a goal to achieve, a passionating reason to live.

I love imagining stories about everything, contemplating nature, life and people, and I'm eager to see the world.

I've been doing art studies but I'm also a fervent self-teaching in many domains, a hard-working art passionate who wants to do a thousand things, but tries to keep focused on a few to give them 100%. I think being curious, learning and improving is the engine of life, and what keeps you moving and young.

I love meeting new people, am curious about their life and path, and eager to learn everything you may teach me!

I am a very empathic person, I often adapt to the people I am with.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

As I said, I am eager to see the world and mmet new people, and what better way for it than couchsurfing? :)

I haven't been able to host so far, but as soon as I find a welcoming enough flat I shall begin hosting happy travellers too!

Interests

As a professionnal artist I am of course highly interested in pictural art, painting, illustration, writing and reading, animation and movies, I also enjoy listening to and playing music. The list for each subject is very long and complex, I could speak about it for three night in a row (which we'll do if we meet ;) ).

Music, Movies, and Books

I've been listening to Metal for years, now I'm more into pagan and celtic music, electro, chillstep, movies and video games OST...

I play didgeridoo at a good level, so everything that has to do with it too. Been playing solo, busking in the streets, and in a trio with a guitar and an accordeon.

Books: Game of Thrones, Dune, Lord of the Rings, Royal Assassin, lots of comics and bande dessinée.

Movies: So many! Very cinephile and cinephage, I could talk for hours about movies, animated films, directors and actor :3
Favorite directors are Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton, Guillermo del Toro, Alex de la Iglesia, Coen brothers...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Losing 20 kilos in 3 months!

I have written and illustrated children's books, and gave little conferences in elementary schools to explain to the children all the steps between an idea and a finished book. Awesome moments!

In my art school we broke the World Record of the longest comic ever drawn: 1 kilometer of bande dessinée in one piece!

I've been playing music all night long with complete strangers, shared Alsacian smelly cheese with Croatian didgeridoo players and watched the sun rise on an ocean of tents and yurts at the Rêve de l'Aborigène festival.

I have met many talented people. Simple as this.

Teach, Learn, Share

This is the part I love the most about meeting new people around :)

I love to speak about my job, the world of illustrations, books, stories under any forms, history of art, and anything related. Arts are a wonderful form of meeting and sharing with strangers.
I can teach you lots of things about drawing and painting, how to perceive the light and watch the world. How to create stories, how to be more inspired overall.

As a didgeridoo player I can teach you how to play this instrument, and how to breathe more effectively. If you are a musician yourself we can have very good times playing together, I love improvisation. I don't know much about solid musical theory, so if you have some lore & knowledge to share, you will find here an attentive ear.

I also love cooking, having been a pizza and salad cook for two years to pay my bills, so I can share recipes and good meals ;)

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can make house cleaning and/or some cooking.

I can share all my little knowledge and enthusiasm for what passionates me, and loooong enjoyable conversations about everything!

I'm willing to pay my rent by making you your own portrait or painting/illustration about anything you like ;)
