ABOUT ME

Traveler of the road. Spinner of the hoop. Lover of the universe.

In a nutshell, I think that my name Malia, meaning "calm water" in Hawaiian, can sum up my personality pretty well. I’m a mellow person who is fascinated with simple living and alternative community spaces.

Currently, I’m living on the road exploring North America with my boyfriend, Matt Cornell (also on CS). We built a pop-up camper on the back of our tiny 85 Toyota truck, which has been our home for the last couple of months.

I was born and raised in Hawaii and lived in Philadelphia for the past 4 years while I went to school at Drexel University. When I graduated this past December I hit the road to discover the diverse transfixing pockets of American life. I have a strong passion for sustainable agriculture, especially in urban environments. I also enjoy expressing myself through natural movement such as hula hooping, dance and yoga.

PHILOSOPHY

Life's not ruff, there's truffles! You are never stuck. There are always options to better yourself and your environment. The grass is not greener on the otherside because I get to choose how green the grass is here, around me, right now. You can never predict what will happen tomorrow so don't spend too much time stressing about it.

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Due to the nomadic lifestyle that I'm currently living I'm unable to participate as a host. However, I've been grateful for the open hospitality of other Couchsurfers. I can't wait to be host when I find my next perminate living situation.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

So far so good! I've only stayed with a couple of Couchsurfers thus far. All were contacted on very short notice which was very convienent for me. It's a great resource for people like me who tend to be "on the no plan plan."

I've battled in the Burning Man thunder dome, recently hiked 22 miles to Secret Canyon, worked on an organic farm in Southern Maryland, and have hula hooped in a grove of Giant Sequias.
