About Me

Hi, I’m Dr Mani from Malaysia 🇲🇾

I’m an entrepreneur and an active volunteer with World Scouting, and I enjoy travelling solo a couple of times a year. For me, travel is not merely about visiting places, it is about engaging with people, understanding cultures, and building genuine human connections.

Through my work and volunteering, I have had the opportunity to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds, which has shaped my appreciation for meaningful conversations, whether about life experiences, culture, or simply sharing stories over a meal.

I come from a Hindu background, which forms part of my cultural identity. At the same time, my personal outlook is deeply rooted in spirituality rather than rigid religious boundaries. I find resonance in the shared ethical foundations across traditions, the understanding that, at their core, all belief systems encourage us to become better human beings.

As such, when I visit places of worship, regardless of the faith, I approach them with respect, openness, and a sense of reflection. I am comfortable engaging in moments of quiet contemplation or prayer, appreciating each space as part of a broader human and cultural ecosystem that transcends differences.

I’m easygoing, respectful, and adaptable. I travel light, keep things simple, and genuinely appreciate the kindness and trust of hosts. I believe in mutual respect, positive energy, and leaving every place better than I found it.

I am also happy to share about Malaysia and the richness of Asian cultures, from traditions and perspectives to everyday lived experiences, while learning just as much from others.

Looking forward to connecting and exchanging stories.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

This is my first time exploring Couchsurfing as I prepare for my Europe travel from April to the end of May. I usually travel solo twice a year, and I’ve come to realise that the most meaningful experiences come from connecting with people, not just visiting places.

For me, travel is about understanding cultures, sharing perspectives, and building genuine human connections. I value conversations, local insights, and the opportunity to experience a place through the eyes of those who live there.

I also look forward to sharing about Malaysia, its diverse cultures and food, as well as broader Asian perspectives, while learning from others along the way. I truly appreciate the spirit of trust, kindness, and openness that Couchsurfing represents.

Interests

I enjoy exploring historical sites, scenic landscapes, islands, and nature. I particularly like mountain hiking and experiencing places that offer both cultural depth and natural beauty.

I’m also interested in visiting places of worship, as I find it meaningful to understand different spiritual traditions and perspectives.

Food is a big part of my travels, I enjoy discovering local cuisines and experiencing authentic flavours wherever I go.

I also enjoy music and occasionally exploring local nightlife, especially places with good dance and electronic music.

Music, Movies, and Books

I enjoy a wide range of movies, especially sci-fi, adventure, action, and a good rom-com. I’m drawn to films that are exciting, imaginative, or simply fun and uplifting. Not really a fan of horror, I prefer something engaging rather than intense in that way.

For music, I like fast-beat and energetic sounds, including dance and electronic music. Anything with a good rhythm that lifts the mood or brings good energy, especially while travelling, is something I enjoy.

When it comes to books, I tend to read non-fiction that focuses on big ideas, leadership, innovation, and understanding how the world works. I enjoy thought-provoking reads like Sapiens, as well as biographies, business insights, and personal growth topics. I’m always interested in ideas that challenge thinking and offer new perspectives on success and life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to international initiatives through World Scouting, helping to shape programmes that promote peace, dialogue, and understanding among young people globally. Being part of something bigger than myself has been truly meaningful.

Teach, Learn, Share

I’m happy to share insights on Malaysia and Asian cultures, including traditions, food, and everyday perspectives. I can also share experiences around leadership, personal development, and my journey working across different industries and communities.

I’m always curious to learn about new cultures, local ways of life, and especially local food. I enjoy discovering what people eat, how it’s prepared, and the stories behind it.

Good conversations, travel stories, and meaningful exchanges. I enjoy exploring food together, whether it’s trying local dishes, visiting hidden gems, or simply sharing a meal. Most importantly, I value genuine human connection and positive energy.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share insights about Malaysia, including our diverse cultures, traditions, and food, as well as broader Asian perspectives. Many people may not know Malaysia in depth, and I’m always happy to help bridge that gap through meaningful conversations and cultural exchange.

I bring a positive attitude, respect, and good company. I value genuine conversations and enjoy exchanging ideas, experiences, and perspectives from different parts of the world.

I’m a considerate and adaptable guest, I respect your space, routines, and home, and I’m happy to contribute in simple ways to make the stay comfortable for both of us.

Most importantly, I aim to create a positive and memorable experience built on mutual respect and trust.
