About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Stay alive, explore new places, meet new people, and interact with them genuinely.
ABOUT ME
What I'm like: I'm tall. Now that we got that out of the way, maybe it won't be the first thing you say when you meet me. :-p I like to laugh and smile and have a good time. I consider myself to be friendly, easy-going, and down-to-earth. I get along with many different people because I feel like I look past a lot of the things that prevent people from just talking and getting to know each other.
I prefer simple living. Life is good and happy if you keep it simple! I enjoy exercise/play and outdoors activities like bicycling, running, swimming, climbing things, kayaking, hiking, etc. I enjoy drinks and food, as well! I love catchin' a buzz and dancing like that crazy guy that doesn't give a shit. I like to meet new people if they're friendly, and prefer to not bother with people that don't want to be bothered with. Sometimes it's fun to get those people loosened up and out of their shell, though.
Lately, I've come to realize that the only thing worth caring about besides securing one's own comfortable living is being understanding, caring and loving to others.
What I'm doing: I'm a native Floridian who hasn't traveled much and is diving in head-first. I'm riding my bicycle, Beverly, from Fort Myers, FL out to the west coast of the U.S., doing internships at organic farms via the WWOOF network along the way. I follow the good riding weather north and south as necessary to stay comfortable and often change my "plans" as new opportunities and ideas arise from new suggestions from the people I meet.
I graduated from Florida Gulf Coast University in the Spring semester of 2011 with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. I got my EI certification and decided that was a good checkpoint and it's time to take a break from the school and work path and do something cool! I want to eventually get my own land and develop it into a self-sustaining homestead that requires little to no money to maintain.
PHILOSOPHY
Living is good and dying is bad. Plain and simple. If you're alive and well but not happy, try and remember that you still have everything. ;-)
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I'm going to be surfing. It's hard to host couchsurfers without a couch. :p
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I've stayed with a few people through the website and then several of my own friends back home. I've also met people, while traveling, who have invited me back to their place whom I stayed with but who were not on Couchsurfing. I'm also on Warmshowers.
Interests
In no particular order of importance: Food (production and cooking), finding ways to live with less fossil fuel, climbing things (trees, rocks, anything with a handhold and even some without), exercise/play, love, friendship, human relationships in general, math, science, history, reading, video games, nature, trees, rivers, seas, mountains, self-sufficiency/sustainability, and more!

Music, Movies, and Books
I like many genres of music. Southern Rock, Classic Rock, Metal, Classical, Jazz, Techno, Dubstep, Folk, Bluegrass, some Rap (the ones that don't just copy everybody else), I'm even starting to enjoy Country more. Probably plenty of others that I haven't mentioned.
Movies are fun! Comedy, action, and adventure are good.
I don't read many books, these days, but if I start one, I can really get into it.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sat on top of a cliff next to a stream flowing over the edge into a waterfall and played the bamboo flute I made, overlooking the forest below, watching a soaring bird.
Super hippy cliche, but you had to be there. :p P.S., I wouldn't consider myself to be a hippy.
Teach, Learn, Share
-I'm a math tutor.
-I've been learning about gardening/farming and have a basic understanding. I'll be learning more as I travel and work at other farms/gardens.
-Chainsaw operation and basic maintenance.
-Bamboo/rivercane flute-making and basic playing.
-Other outdoorsy skills related to camping, survival, and homesteading.
-Flying model airplanes.
-I can build a mean bonfire given enough wood.
-I love playing hand drums like congas and djembes and can teach some basics, even though I'm not a particularly impressive/talented player.
