I’m on Couchsurfing because I believe that the best way to truly experience a country is through its people. For me, travel isn’t just about sightseeing or staying in luxury hotels—it’s about immersing myself in the local culture, understanding traditions, tasting authentic food, learning the language, and experiencing the everyday life of the people who call that place home.

Checking into a resort is easy—I could book it online, hop on a flight, and enjoy the comfort. But where’s the adventure in that? I’d rather stay with locals, share stories over home-cooked meals, navigate public transport like a resident, and truly feel the energy of a place. Whether it’s living in a small hut with a fisherman in Thailand or exploring a bustling city with a local guide, these are the experiences that make travel meaningful.

One of my most unforgettable travel experiences was navigating China without access to essential apps like Google Maps, WhatsApp, or Instagram. In cities like Xiamen, Ningbo, and Yantian—where English is rarely spoken—I had to rely entirely on my instincts, interactions with locals, and a few learned phrases in Mandarin.

Figuring out public transport, exchanging currency when my cards didn’t work, and overcoming every challenge without digital assistance was both thrilling and rewarding. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and proved that true adventure lies in immersing yourself in the unknown.

For me, travel isn’t just about visiting places; it’s about adapting, learning, and making connections beyond language barriers.
