Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We are born wanderers with an affinity for the slow crawl of overland travel. We love meeting people from places that are often missed en route. The world is full of juxtaposition and we tend to be gravitated to these areas.

Some highlights of the last couple years:

- Blowing our tire outside of Lafayette, LA - only to have a kind 75 year old Jazz Musician drive us 25 minutes away to find a replacement.

- Camping at Buttermilk Falls State Park, NY. Ithaca is a truly awesome time. This campground is situated just outside of the city/village/campus. Waterfalls flow into natural swimming holes, a great Micro-Brewery, and the birthplace of the famed Moosewood Cookbook.

- 2 Months of renting an apartment in North Oakland, CA. Ida and I recorded an album at Tiny Telephone (a recording studio in San Francisco's Mission Neighborhood) with our band Renegade Choir. Talk about a place of contrasts. Oakland, with it's "hard" reputation was one of the most hospitable places I have been to in North America. I can't say the same about the highway down to San Jose...

- Traveling Highway 1 in California (BIG SUR, MONTERREY) is intensely beautiful, and a big like being in a Roadrunner Cartoon, very narrow road - beautiful vista's of the Pacific. We had just as much fun heading North from Santa Cruz through the aptly named "Lost Coast" - where fertile farmland bellies the cresting Pacific. Not to mention a 6 day live-in at Santa Cruz's Super 8 motel. In winter, this resort town turns into what looks like an abandoned carnival...that being said the main drag introduced us to the mecca of late-night diners, Saturn Cafe. Which by chance had opened a second location in Berkeley, CA which also serves as a hip live music venue.
