My name's Mar and I'm currently calling Guelph, ON my home. However, by the time you read this I might be on the west coast planting metric butt tonnes of trees.
I'm into dancing and wearing costumes and climbing trees. Other things as well. The point is, I'm pretty easy to get along with in most situations and with most people. I've racked up quite a few hitchhiked kilometers and so am pretty good at hanging out with strangers, I think.

I've done many thousands of kilometers of hitchhiking and think it's rad for pretty typical reasons. Free travel with the added bonus of meeting a wide variety of people whom I would likely not talk to otherwise. Couchsurfing is like that but without a really fast moving thing that we're all sitting in.

While hitchhiking through southern BC, one time, I met this old man named Kaz who was a part of greenpeace in the 70's and was on the voyages to stop the russians from whaling. Anyway, this guy gives me David Garrick's number. David Garrick, AKA Walrus, is essentially an old wise hermit who lives on a small island, mostly by himself, in the Johnstone strait between Vancouver island and the mainland. He's an expert in Culturally Modified Tree; still living trees that have been used by natives currently or hundreds of years go to create pretty much anything. I'd have to tell you more about it in person but I was amazed that by standing on the side of some road in southern BC, I was given the amazing privilege of visiting and knowing this amazing human and holder of so much knowledge.
