ABOUT ME

I like lots of things, which may change depending on my mood and location. I love to hike and bike and generally be outside as much as possible. I love big, hectic cities filled with too many people, but can't deny how happy I am to escape them. I love to travel but always miss home when I do. I love Northwest summers consisting of swimming and blueberry picking. My ideal day is spent outside, walking and talking and eating fresh fruit, topped off by a night of wine drinking with good friends and a bit of dancing. I love to learn new things and meet new people and read and write. I sing and hum when I get nervous, stressed or agitated. I'm told that I walk quickly and with purpose. I love chatting and laughing. I believe strongly in many things, and these beliefs guide who I am and what I do.

I love jazz and the blues, above all else. I love Buddy Guy, Miles Davis, Habib Koite, Ali Farka Toure, Taj Mahal, Nina Simone, James Brown, the Roots, the Dirty Projectors, Fat Freddy's Drop, Gil Scott-Heron, Amadou & Miriam, Sam Cooke, and many more. I love long, meandering writers who care deeply about the world but aren't trying too hard to figure it out, because that isn't possible. I don't watch many movies but a major guilty pleasure is animated films (they're made for everyone, not just kids, I swear!)

When I was four, I staged a march at my preschool to celebrate Nelson Mandela's release from prison.
