Sobre mí

CURRENT MISSION

To see the entire world, one country at a time

ABOUT ME

I'm an easy going, kind-hearted Canadian who recently lived in France. I have an insatiable desire to travel everywhere that I can. I love learning new languages (currently working on French, Spanish, Portuguese and Italian). I'm very open-minded, and I love to meet different people from all corners of the globe.

I see myself as a citizen not just of Canada, but of the world. I want to learn about the different peoples of the world, to understand the challenges that we all face and how to improve the quality of life of all people and living things in the world.

I'm patient, calm and empathetic. I have a wide range of interests and passions. Above all, I love to learn. My curiosity is one thing that will never fade.

It is my hope that by the end of my life, I will have visited every country and continent in the world. I don't mean just stopping in a country for a flight connection, but exploring it for at least a week. At 4/193, I've got several years of travel ahead of me.

I'm laid-back, and I love having a good laugh. Life would really suck if you cannot have a laugh!

PHILOSOPHY

I believe that everyone should live life to the fullest, and not let anything hold them back. Whether they want to travel everywhere, pursue an seemingly impossible career or goal, or just be happy, you have to go for it! You only have one life, so live it to the fullest.

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I love meeting new people from all corners of the world. I'm open-minded and curious about all of our world's cultures and people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I did couchsurfing in October-November 2007, in Torino, Italy. The host was absolutely amazing, and it was a wonderful time!
I also did couchsurfing in Prague in February-March 2008, and it has been my best experience to date.
My final couchsurfing experience (so far) was in Lisbon in April 2008, and although my host was busy and unable to show me much of the city, it was nonetheless a great experience.

Intereses

Learning languages (current focus is French and Spanish; Italian and Brazilian Portuguese are also on my list; goal for life includes Swedish, German, Czech, Russian, Turkish, Arabic, Mandarin, Korean and Japanese) is a passion of mine. When I travel, I always learn, at minimum, the basics for pronunciation and phrases for the country's language.

Food and drink are another passion of mine. I love cooking for people, and I'm always looking for new recipes to try from all kinds of international cuisines. Favourites of mine: Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Italian, French and Mexican food. Favourite dishes of mine: peanut chicken, Peking duck, dim sum (especially pork and chive dumplings!), sushi, bruschetta, Genovese pesto pasta, salade Lyonnaise, crème brûlée and guacamole. Dishes I love to cook: Thai green curry chicken, Thai basil chicken, fondant au chocolat and guacamole. Culinary adventures are extremely important for me - and they are super tasty :)

Politics is another passion of mine, especially Canadian and American. I also follow international affairs from all parts of the world. Our world is too diverse and exciting to be ignored!

Health is another interest of mine. I try my hardest to eat well and be physically active. Human anatomy and medicine are things I find fascinating too.

A few other interests of mine: tennis, European soccer, biking, music (classical, samba, jazz, oldies are just a few that I love), nature (especially trees - I love them), literature, cinema (some favourite films of mine: The Godfather, Crash, Cidade de Deus, The Jason Bourne Trilogy, Lord of the Rings, Inception...so many more) and history. I'm a huge history nerd and buff. I particularly enjoy Canadian, American and European history, but am always learning the history of tons of countries and people.

I love comedy. A favourite is British comedy, with the shows Little Britain, The Catherine Tate Show and Yes, Prime Minister being my favourites. I'm a big fan of American comedy too, with George Carlin, Bill Maher, Lewis Black, Robin Williams and Jon Stewart being my favourites.

And of course, I love traveling.

Música, películas y libros

Harry Potter; Michael Crichton books (especially State of Fear); John Grisham books (especially The Firm and The Street Lawyer).

Watchmen, documentaries (The Corporation, Jesus Camp)

Classical music (especially Dvorak, Beethoven and Tchaikovsky), samba, tango

There are far too many more, and we could drink many glasses of wine or pints of beer over it. You'll have to talk to me to find out :)

Algo increíble que he hecho

I had the experience of going to the Oregon coast of the U.S., and I went to Cape Meares, a local state park. There, you get the most amazing view of the Pacific, complete with the huge pine trees and beautiful scenery. Just standing there, listening to the waves and looking at the ocean was so relaxing. It was unforgettable.

Enseña, aprende, comparte

I love helping people learn English. In my travels, I have been fortunate to meet many people who are extraordinarily patient with me when I try to speak their language. The least I can do is help them speak my native language!

Food is a passion of mine, and when I can cook with friends, cook for them or have someone cook for me, I am in heaven.

I can talk with anyone. Having philosophical conversations about life and our world are things I love to do.
