Hi there! We’re Marcela (33, from Chile) and Jarred (39, from Australia)—a kind, easygoing couple traveling around on a long-awaited gap year adventure.

We’re passionate about meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and sharing great conversations (and food!) along the way. Couchsurfing feels like the perfect way to connect more deeply with each place we visit—not just as tourists, but as people curious about how others live, what they love, and how they see the world.

Marcela is a designer and artist with a love for anything creative—she’s into interior design, photography, pottery, and handmade crafts. She’s also a trained pastry chef, so don’t be surprised if she whips up something sweet in your kitchen!

Jarred works in international aid and community development, and he’s passionate about social justice, storytelling, and connecting with people from all walks of life. He’s got a calm energy, a great sense of humour, and is always happy to lend a hand where needed.

We’re both curious, open-minded, tidy, and respectful guests. Whether it’s sharing a home-cooked meal, exchanging stories, helping out a little around the house, or just hanging out with your pets—we’re all about genuine connection and leaving good vibes behind.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

We're currently on our gap year :) We left our jobs, sold our belongings, and jumped into this adventure full-on!

Marcela successfully organized her coworkers at her previous job to secure fair wages and lawful working conditions. While this led to meaningful improvements for everyone, it ultimately cost her both her job and her visa.

Jarred has conducted interviews in small villages in Papua New Guinea, focusing on illegal logging.

Teach, Learn, Share

Marcela can share her creative side: she’s got experience in interior design, painting, photography, and DIY crafts. She also loves baking and can teach you how to make some delicious pastries or traditional Chilean sweets.

Jarred brings a calm presence and a big heart for community work. He’s great at writing, storytelling, and loves talking about culture, history, and global issues. He’s also always happy to help practice English or just have a thoughtful conversation.

We’re both excited to learn whatever you're up for sharing—be it local traditions, recipes, languages, or just your favorite spots around town. We're curious souls who enjoy hearing different perspectives and trying new things.
