About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to travel, have adventures, and enjoy life

ABOUT ME

I'm just living my life - researching science and mathematics, riding my bicycle, and making sure I get 3 solid meals a day. I try to be always conscious of how I fit in the world, be it socially, ecologically, economically, whatever.

I love learning new things, and I hope there's enough room up in my brain for all the stuff I don't know yet.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

-Hosted some lovely people in Chicago (2009-2014) and Japan (2016)
-Surfed with delightful folks in Okayama (2017); London, Leeds, Edinburgh (2012); Strasbourg, Helsinki (2011); Rennes, Saint-Malo, Nantes (2009); Berlin (2006)
-Organized two scrumptious dinner events in Paris (2010)

Interests

I love to cook - basically i would be happy just going food shopping and cooking all day long. I mostly make vegetarian food, but I'm always up for eating something new especially while traveling.

I ride my bicycle whenever I can. I love it.

I'm a big proponent of do-it-yourself culture, whether it's open-source software, little art projects, or food experiments.

I'm a university researcher working on computer simulations in geophysics. Specifically I'm currently working on coastal disaster modeling. More generally i'm interested in sciency stuff and especially issues related to climate change.

I'm an occasional photographer.

I enjoy craft beers and aged spirits, and I know more about them than is really necessary.

I'm always up for an adventure or a good boardgame.

Movies: Primer, pi, Robin Hood; many films by Sergio Leone and Werner Herzog

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Once I hopped a freight train in Minneapolis and rode it 36 hours to the mountains of Montana. Another time I snuck into a zoo at night with a dear friend and sat basking in the blue light of the aquarium while drinking wine.

Teach, Learn, Share

I might be able to teach you a thing or two about the beauty of mathematics, or give you a crash-course in French, or take you dumpster diving. But I'd love even more to discover something I don't know anything about.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United States
