With everything now available online, it is simple to travel nearly anywhere, and it is even possible to carry on a conversation using Google translate as I have done numerous times. But interactions with locals are often of monetary nature and not neccesarilysincere. Couch surfers tend to be very different. Sharing is for the sake of learning.

World travel. My number one interest is learning what interests others have. In Russia I fell into a community of musicians and their enthusiasm was simply overwhelming. Out of nowhere they would begin to sing and I could not help but smile.

I like Spanish pop but I am open to listening to any genre. Mongolian throat music was something else and then I found it again in Buryiat in Russia.

I prefer comedies.

As for books, non-fiction and travelogues. Someday I should write one!

I recently visited the one place in the world where I believe the east most directly meets the west simply by crossing a river - Blagoveshchensk, Russia and Heihe, China. A simple river crossing changes race, language, culture, architecture, and even smell. A truly unique place.

I can practice english with you and others. On several occasions I have been invited to speak to english students at local schools -great experience and it feels nice to give something back to the community.
