About Me

CURRENT MISSION

From gringo to paisa to carioca to porteño with a year in South America! (¡Convertirme de gringo a paisa a carioca a porteño con un año en Sudamerica!)

ABOUT ME

24 years old, used to work in finance but recently quit to travel around South America and learn Spanish and Portuguese. I have a lot of hobbies and interests--I'm an ice hockey nut, a car geek, and a guitarist--in addition to my love of languages and learning about other cultures.

PHILOSOPHY

I think the expression "time is money" is nonsense. Time is much more valuable because it's finite; besides living a healthy lifestyle you probably don't have much of a say in how long you live. You can trade your time FOR money, but you better love your job. Not to be trite, but life is too short to get stuck doing something you don't absolutely love.

Interests

Ice Hockey: Up until February of 2014 I played two or three times a week and continue to rabidly follow the New York Rangers. Can't get enough of this sport, and I try to share it with everybody I can.

Guitar: I've been playing electric guitar since 5th or 6th grade and picked up the classical guitar recently. I've never taken lessons but I'm always looking to jam.

Music: Classic rock, jazz, Spanish guitar, blues, reggae, grunge, all types of instrumental music, and... SALSA!

Cars: I drive a Subaru WRX and love to work on and talk about cars, mechanics, racing etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Some movies: Nueve Reinas, Historias Minimas, Motorcycle Diaries, Officespace, Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now

Some of my favorite music: Assad Brothers, Hendrix, Thelonious Monk, Astor Piazzolla, Orquesta Adolescentes

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Learning salsa from a Colombian in New York, then dancing it to house music in a Buenos Aires club at 5am a month later. Not bad for a gringo!

Aprender bailar salsa con una colombiana en Nueva York, y luego bailarla a la música house en un club en Buenos Aires a las 5 de la mañana sólo un mes más tarde. Nada mal, para ser gringo, ¿no?
