About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Trying to find awesome people in SF to experience local life in this city. Hostels aren't in the best areas and hotels are way out of my price range. I want to be an SF local for the time I'm here, just in case I never get to live in this amazing city.

ABOUT ME

I'm a gay, trilingual Australian-British (dual citizen) guy currently travelling up the West Coast. I've just spent the last week soaking up the sun in San Diego and now I'm in SF to eat, drink, make friends, have fun and live like a local.

I've just quit my job in translation speech technologies and will start work in social/employment policy with the Australian Government next year. That pretty much explains what my uni/work background is: politics and language.

I have a tonne of interests and get along with everyone. We're all human after all! So far on this trip I've befriended 2 old ladies; one gave me a lift to the hostel, the other invited me into her amazing home on San Diego's Pacific Beach pier. If you can trust them, then you can surely trust me! haha

PHILOSOPHY

To speak the language, understand the culture.
To understand the culture, understand the people.
To understand the people, eat and drink with them!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I really can give a lot back, whether you give me a little or a lot. I have lived in a lot of countries with different cultures and have learnt a lot in my short 25 years on this planet. I love to share these experiences with others and would hate to think of myself as closed-minded.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've couchsurfed in different ways than on the couchsurfing on this site.
When I was 18 I lived with 4 (VERY) different families on a high school exchange for 13 months.
When I was 20 I lived and worked for a Galician family in Spain as an au pair.
I'm used to sharing rooms and facilities from years staying in hostels and I'm extremely aware of others.

Interests

I play the viola, piano and trombone. I still play viola semi-professionally when I can.
I love negronis, live music, cold beer, my mum's lasagne.
I love travelling, eating and drinking different things and meeting people.
I try and learn a bit of the local dialect wherever I go.
I swim, go to the beach, go the gym, love to hike and cycle. Not a sports guy but love to keep fit.
Keep up to date with politics and current affairs around the world.
Love to cook and eat (if you haven't got that already)

Music, Movies, and Books

Sufjan Stevens, Manu Chao, Brahms, Josh Pyke, Stravinsky, Carlos Jobim, trashy pop.

Studied a lot of French cinema, really enjoy "world cinema" i.e. not Hollywood.

I mostly read non-fiction at the moment, but I love crime thrillers. Look up Ruth Rendell if you don't know her!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Played in the Sydney Opera House, became fluent in French and Spanish on my own back, moved to France at the age of 18, met one of my favourite singers and was so star-struck only a little sound came out—truly mortifying, but amazing for the people around me!

Teach, Learn, Share

I can help you learn English, French, Spanish
Talk to you about politics (especially American politics) for hours and hours
Teach you to play the piano and fine tune your musical ability
Tell you about my honours thesis (on parental leave in France and the history/future of "family policy) for literally days on end
And much more!
