About Me
Hola! I’m Marcy, born in Costa Rica, with Taiwanese roots, and raised in Panama. I’ve been traveling full-time for the past seven years after spending nearly a decade working in the luxury fashion industry. Eventually, I traded the corporate world for a more creative and intentional life that lets me explore the world while working remotely. I share my journey on Instagram at @marcy_yu.
I’m an introvert by nature, quiet, curious, and someone who values deep conversations, solo adventures, and discovering cultures in a more meaningful way.
While I usually stay in hotels or Airbnbs, I genuinely love the Couchsurfing experience. It feels more authentic and personal. A chance to connect with kind locals and experience a place through the people who live there. As someone who travels often alone, it’s also a beautiful way for me to meet new friends in a more intentional way.
When I do Couchsurf, I always try to give back whether that’s cooking a meal, treating my host to dinner, or helping out with groceries. I believe in mutual respect, kindness, and creating good energy wherever I go.
I usually only accept stays with a private room, simply because I value quiet time to recharge — and I also work while I travel.
I’m not here for hookups, just meaningful human connection. If you’re kind, respectful, and open to sharing stories or a moment of your world, I’d love to connect.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I first learned about Couchsurfing from a close friend in the UK, who rave all about it as an incredible way to connect with locals and make global friends. While I was initially skeptical—I’ve always enjoyed staying in nice hotels and could easily afford my accommodations - I decided to give it a try. What I discovered was eye-opening.
While I still love a good hotel stay, Couchsurfing offers something that no hotel can: a chance to experience a destination through the eyes of a local. It’s a unique way to uncover hidden gems, learn about the culture, and get invaluable travel tips. I’ve found it fascinating to hear locals share stories about their countries, especially when they reveal how some aspects of their culture are actually crafted for tourists.
Through Couchsurfing, I’ve met countless amazing people, many of whom have become close friends. The generosity and kindness I’ve encountered from my hosts have far exceeded my expectations. Once my travels slow down, I’m really looking forward to hosting other Couchsurfing members and offering the same incredible hospitality that I’ve been lucky enough to receive.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
I climbed the highest mountain in Africa: Kilimanjaro and also the highest in North Africa: Toubkal. My first solo trip was Rwanda where I saw the gorillas and it was such an incredible experience.
What I Can Share with Hosts
A new friend who’s Costa Rican, Panamanian, Taiwanese, and has a UK phone number—quite the unique combination, right? 🤣☺️
