About Me

CURRENT MISSION

to catch up with myself

ABOUT ME

I am a nurse, which may be the most important thing, because it defines me a bit and gives me cohesion and purpose. I work in intensive care. I am a traveller, I have to move, I get itchy feet easily. I over-compensate for my innate state of total disorganisation with wall planners, calendars, organisers, notebooks, and writing things down on little pieces of paper (which invariably disappear). I enjoy the illusion of being in control of my life that this affords me.

PHILOSOPHY

When I was younger I thought I had this all worked out. Now I admit my cluelessness and just try to go with the flow of the universe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well I have surfed and hosted quite a bit. I also tell people to join CS all the time, because its awesome.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have surfed & hosted unofficially in NZ, Australia and Singapore a lot. I surfed couches through Europe and Morrocco, and hosted several travellers in NZ*

* For more references regarding my credibility, see my old joint page, under 'friends'

Interests

I love the natural world, growing plants native to my local area, and aspire to be an environmental activist one day. I love to celebrate, anything at all, and will take any excuse to throw a party. I find culture and human behaviour fascinating.

Music, Movies, and Books

I adore reggae and electronic music with nicely constructed beats (but I dislike dubstep). I don't mind a bit of hiphop. I have withdrawal when deprived of drum & bass for long.

My favourite books are: Paul Coelho- The Alchemist, Jostein Gaarder- Maya, Jostein Gaarder- The Solitaire Mystery, Antoine du St-Exupery- The Little Prince, Jon Krakauer- Into the Wild, Terry Pratchett- Nation, Bryce Courtenay- Tommo & Hawk.

Favourite movies are too many to name, but here's one from each of my favourite directors: Wes Anderson - The Life Aquatic. David Lynch - Wild at Heart. Tim Burton - Big Fish.

There should be an art category here. I love mid-20th century modern paintings and can spend hours in art galleries if given half a chance. I enjoy going to operas too.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I held one of her mother's hands as my goddaughter Chelsea was born, and cut her umbilical cord to welcome her to the world. (Her Daddy was too shaken by this point!)

I dived on the Great Barrier Reef in Queensland even though I was mildly terrfied, and was rewarded with all the colours of creation and the beauty of an ecosystem left to thrive as nature intended.

Teach, Learn, Share

What can I teach you? I don't know. I think the most interesting and important things I have ever learnt have been outside of the context of being taught. Lets just be ourselves and see what we happen to learn from each other.

Countries I’ve Visited

Argentina, Australia, Bangladesh, Belgium, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Chile, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Laos, Malaysia, Morocco, Netherlands, Peru, Poland, Singapore, Spain, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam
