Sobre mí

I was born and raised in the south of France, between the sea and the mountains... I moved to the U.S. when I was 16 on a whim and started living by myself there and going to school. I almost majored in psychology, sociology, and astronomy (love the ideas but can't deal with the math) before settling on literature.
I stayed in the midwest for 11 years, visiting family in France occasionally and traveling around the states a bit, and now I'm back in Europe for the next few months!

I love stars, whales, and being in a classroom--whether it's as a student or a teacher (they're often the same thing).

Por qué estoy en Couchsurfing

I love travelling :) I lived in the States for a long time and since I've been back in Europe my mind has constantly been blown by the depth and diversity of culture in the countries around me (a short flight away!), and I want to take advantage of that as much as possible.

I'm new to the couchsurfing community, and I can't wait to see what it has to offer.

Intereses

People, mostly--whether they're real or fictional.

I have a hard time reading nonfiction so I'm by no means a history buff, but I love visiting old towns, especially old churches and cathedrals. The Sagrada Familia in Barcelona is my favorite building ever.

Música, películas y libros

I am a huge Alien fan, and I love science-fiction in general (lately with a focus on women sci-fi writers, Tiptree etc.).

I read all the time, anything from very hard lit. to more light reading. I was obsessed with The Brothers Karamazov for a few years, I love Moby Dick (whales!)...lately I've been reading a lot of John Irving and Iris Murdoch.
Oh, and anything Neil Gaiman's touched (especially Neverwhere and the Sandman series).

Algo increíble que he hecho

Hmm. Started living alone in a foreign country at 16 (more impressive: started dealing with embassies/visa paperwork at 16 ^^).

The thing I'm most proud of is teaching literature in grad school. I love designing syllabi and figuring out how to get a good vibe in the classroom.
I once taught a whole class on Why Poetry Is Scary and it was the best thing I've ever done.
