About Me

ABOUT ME

I'm nice and kind, I always listen to what people have to say, and give my opinion also, if they what it. I respect other people's choices and visions and I seek a way to learn with them. I'm friendly, smiley and I'm always ready to give a hug when people need it. I'm not afraid to show how I feel about things or people. I'm sarcastic (the friendly sarcastic type) and funny. I love to laugh and enjoy a good time with my friends. I defend my friends and family with my life, because I see them as the most important gift I have.

PHILOSOPHY

"I want to stand as close to the edge as I can without going over. Out on the edge you see all the kinds of things you can't see from the center.” by Kurt Vonnegut

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've meet the most amazing and incredible people through Couchsurfing and I believe that it's a very good way to be part of global culture, if you see it without prejudice or miss-concepts.

Interests

I love to create new things, impossible stuff... Since my teen years (a looong time ago), I've always made little necklaces, bracelets, earrings, etc. But the materials I find most interesting are those that people wouldn't think as a good option to use. That's why, sometimes, are just pieces of junk (ahahah), but when it works ok... They are great!!! But, what i love about this is all the process till success/failure of the final piece. The process of an idea, translated into a daft, then a prototype... then I destroy the inicial idea and the prototype change... in the end of all this I kept the draft as a prototype, the prototype as an idea and nothing is as it started. This constant frustration is what moves me. In a way, this is how I deal with most of the situations, there isn't a logical, predetermined, process approved by millions before me that allows us to find the solution. I don't like that... I find new ways to get to the solution... even if I have to find 1 or 2 wrong answers along the way.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Scuba diving in Dominican Republic!!
I had never tried it before, not even snorkelling... Although I love the ocean, the water, marine life and all that's sea related, I was always too scared to try scuba diving :/
My best friend is living in Dominican Republic, working as a Diving Instructor in a local resort. I decided to visit her for a week, stay in the village where she lives in, get to know the locals and live the true spirit of that amazing place. She offered to be my personal Diving Instructor for a diving trip to Saona Island. Reluctantly, I said yes... fearing for my dear life.
After the whole set of procedures and pool training to master the equipment, we went to Saona and dived in those turquoise waters. For a moment, I though I was going to burst into tears... the feeling of zero gravity, the colours, the serenity of the ocean, the thousand fishes and marine life... IT WAS BREATHTAKING!
I was so happy for those 45 minutes under water... flying through the blue waters... listening only to my heartbeat and my breath. It moves me every time I recall that experience (I'm shedding a tear right now).
When we came up to the surface, I screamed and laughed so loud, it was so overwhelmingly beautiful... my reaction surprised the boat crew and after realising I was physically fine... I was just demonstrating the intense happiness for being there... they gave me the film of my first dive (usually you have to pay for it), because it was such an unusual reaction from a tourist :D

Needless to say that in the remaining days of the trip to Dominican Republic I made as many dives as I physically could (within my budget, of course).

Loved it!

Teach, Learn, Share

A bad experience, it's always an experience. Overcoming an obstacle it's a great feeling. Don't always choose the easy way out, challenge yourself! It's seems such a cliché, right? But clichés exists because they work. I'm looking forward to be challenged surrounded by other cultures, environments, languages, beliefs and laws. Break free from the society that demands a certain kind of life...

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can cook, or teach how to cook some really delicious Portuguese dishes (I'll also wash the dishes after the meal). I'm an extrovert and love to learn new aspects of the cultural environment I'm surrounded by.
