About Me

hi! I'm marina, from são paulo, brazil — writer, translator, teacher, cat cohabitant, and full-time overthinker. I love traveling, art, music, politics (leftist, obviously), and long conversations where people actually say what they mean.

I spent part of my childhood in sitges, near barcelona, and later lived in argentina for 10 years, where I studied cinema and education — because clearly I enjoy careers that pay terribly but feed the soul.

I’m into wandering around new places with no real plan, trying local food, talking to strangers (the interesting kind), and noticing those small, poetic details that make life feel less absurd.

I live with nestor, my very old cat who’s been with me for many years. I brought him from argentina to brazil, and now I’m gently and lovingly caring for him through what seems to be the final stretch of his long, beautiful life.

not here just for a couch — I’m here for real exchanges, good talk, and maybe a glass of wine if we vibe.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I’m on couchsurfing because I believe the best part of traveling isn’t the sights — it’s the people. I’m not into tourist checklists or superficial small talk. I’d rather share a coffee and a strange story with someone local than take the perfect photo of a monument I won’t remember.

I love the quiet radicalism of trusting strangers, and how some of the most meaningful moments happen in kitchens, living rooms, or while getting a bit lost.

connection > comfort. always.

Music, Movies, and Books

i’ve been collecting vinyl since i was a kid and i listen to music pretty much all day — but don’t worry, i always have my headphones on. i go through phases: sometimes i’m deep in boleros, rancheras and other heartbreak soundtracks; sometimes i’m blasting argentinian rock or dancing to cumbias like there’s no tomorrow. brazilian music is a constant. i also love jazz and blues.

i have a degree in film, but don’t worry — i’m not one of "those" people. i’m just as happy watching a black-and-white iranian drama at a film fest as i am cracking up at some ridiculous comedy.

i’m really into latin american literature — clarice lispector, garcía márquez, cortázar, hilda hilst, bolaño... and i’d love to know who your favorite writer is :)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

i taught art, literature and writing to adults excluded from the argentinian education system — people who had been systematically pushed out, erased, ignored. the goal was a high school diploma, but what really happened was resistance, memory, and dignity in motion. i was the teacher, but they taught me everything.
