About Me

[Due to corona crisis, I stopped accepting guests for a while, will start again maybe in August if I still can (changing flat soon), thank you for your understanding.]

[I get quite a lot of requests in Montpellier, which is fine, but be aware that if you ask at the last minute I might not be able to host you as I do need some me-time now and then !]

I'm doing a PhD in film studies, working on some Hungarian movies from the 90s to today. I don't have facebook so it seems that I am doomed to have an incomplete profile. Also I refuse to pay to "get verified", so here are a few percent I'll never have. But, day after day, I manage to live unverified.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I used to travel with friends and we used their profile, but from now on I decided to create my own because I am going to travel a little bit on my own for my studies, and I rather meet people then, than go the hostel. Or in the street.
I'd like to host people too, unfortunately I just moved in London in a house were we have no living-room and no couch to host people, but hopefully this will change when I'll go back to France.
[Edit : this changed as we (my partner Pippa and I) moved to Montpellier, a lovely shiny city in the south of France. We have space and if available would be delighted to host people - LGBTQI+ friendly.]

Interests

Reading in my bath with a good ol' whisky or drinking a bad one with my friends, spend afternoons by the river when the days are getting warm and evenings in concert places when the nights are getting colder, cooking and eating when I'm hosting people and cooking and eating when people host me, etc.

Music, Movies, and Books

Kind of eclectic... Let's try it this way :

Music : classical occidental music with an inclination on the XXth century, classical indian music too, but also plenty of popular music like cajun music (Balfa Brothers), french singers (from Fréhel to my beloved yéyés and plenty others), country music (Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs...), italodisco (Giorgio Moroder, Divine...), Synthpop (Lio, Elli & Jacno...), Ghettotech (DJ Deeon, DJ Funk...), a bit of techno music from Kraftwerk to Pete Swanson, EBM (Liaisons dangereuses, DAF...), some folk singers (Julee Cruise, Molly Nilsson...), a lot of other stuffs from the 80s (John Foxx, Kas Product...), italian singers from the 60s (Mina, Bobby Solo...), a few french rappers, ska from the 60s-70s (The Ethiopians, Prince Buster...), Salsa colombiana, and really a lot of others things.
I also have a secret love for eurodance from the late 90s-00s (Alice Deejay, Gigi d'Agostino...), but I swear I'm normal.
I have a keen interest in traditional music though, which I'd like to improve by travelling.

Movies...
Here are some of my favorite directors : Tarr, Fehér, Tarkovski, Kurosawa, Hawks, Kalatozov, Tati, Kobayashi, Eisenstein, Mankiewicz...
And here are those I hate the most : Aronovsky, Korine, Malick and Almodovar.

And authors : I'm madly in love with Wodehouse and I want to meet everyone who is too. I also love Proust, Kostolanyi, Woolf, Dosto, Rilke, Jankélévitch, Keyserling, Balzac, Kertész, Lawrence, Ponge...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Quit smoking and then starting to smoke again. Incredible. When I'll find something else I'll change this part.

[Edit : Now I'm almost able to have a proper conversation in Hungarian. Whoever tried it should know that it's something worth a little pride.]

What I Can Share with Hosts

I love to cook, I can make some decent French dishes, and some Hungarian ones as well. I think it's my favorite part of the couchsurfing experience, when I can cook something for my hosts/guests and they can do the same.
