My name is Mario Kataoka and I'm a web developer currently based in London, England - though I actually have a pretty unique background…

After being born in Toronto, Canada, I moved to Brazil with my parents where the rest of my family was based. After a few years there we left Brazil for a series of locations: a year in Spain and then a few more in Florida until we finally settled in California! I had the need to keep moving, however, so when I finished high school I decided to move back to Canada, this time settling in Montreal for university.

After 7 years, even though I loved Montreal, I decided that it was time for another change, so earlier this year I moved to London. I absolutely love living here, especially because I get to go on so many short trips to different countries in Europe!

As far as my personality goes, people tend to tell me I am a really laid back person, the kind of friend you’d spend hours chatting with after having cooked dinner together. I love talking about books, movies, and especially music (seeing music live is probably my favorite activity).

Other than spending time with friends, I also absolutely love the outdoors; I like to practice bouldering in my free time, and my ideal weekend trip would be to go camping or hiking out in the woods!

I’m lucky that my job allows me to work from anywhere, so I have been trying to get to know more of Europe by working from different cities for a week or so at a time. However, spending such a short amount of time in a place, it can be a little hard to meet locals, so I wanted to Couchsurf on the weekends to meet people from the cities I'm visiting.
