I'm a Canadian/Dutch dual-citizen, still figuring out my place in the world, and how I can try to make it a better place (cliché, I know). I'm laid back about most things, but I'm pretty passionate about the environment, and love to sit around and talk about the issues of the day, or anything else really (with the exception of celebrity gossip). I'm very self-sufficient, un-demanding, and believe strongly in the philosophy of live-and-let-live. I'm in an in-between phase of life right now, and so decided to do some travelling and working overseas, but I'm also a terrible procrastinator, which is why I'm only writing up my profile now, over a year after I signed up.

I became a member of this wonderful community through a good friend and former roommate, who has been a member of Couchsurfing for many years. We hosted numerous people over the years that we lived together, and the experiences were always positive. Now that I am on my own, and preparing to do some travelling, I thought it was high time to become an official member.

Music: It's hard to choose, since I like a range of music, from Metal to Electronic to Hip Hop to Folk to Rock. If I had to pick one album to bring to a desert island though, it would be the Smashing Pumpkins' Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness.

Movies: It's a three-way tie (for very different reasons) between Apocalypse Now, Spirited Away, and The Princess Bride.

Books: For non-fiction, it could be anything that catches my eye re: politics, economics or science. For fiction: The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, and Dune.

Confronting, and getting my wallet back from, a pick-pocket in Amsterdam on New Year's Eve, is the first thing that springs to mind. Though that may have been the scariest/dumbest thing I've ever done, rather than the most amazing. (It was still worth it).

Good conversation, peppered with random facts and explanations that may go off on tangents.

Reasonable cooking skills, coupled with a total willingness to do dishes afterwards.
