Hi! My name is Markéta and to describe me in the shortest way two words are needed: animals + travelling. Since being around animals has always made me feel great I decided to study veterinary medicine. But before I finish my studies I am going to take 8 months off the school and together with my boyfriend explore the world and enjoy life! Because if not now then when?
I love exploring different ways of living life, meeting strangers and getting to know their stories and challenging the old ways of doing things.

The best way to spend my free time when I am at home in the Czech Republic? Walk for hours with my boyfriend and our dogs in the forests and meadows or look at the world from a horse saddle. I should mention that I also enjoy reading interesting books, listening to mainly peaceful music and meeting up with friends.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

During hitch-hiking in New Zealand, it happened to me and my boyfriend a couple of times that drivers selflessly offered a bed at their houses to us and these stays at homes of complete strangers turned out to be one of the most pleasant experiences from our whole journey. We had great talks with these people and learned a lot about the cultures and countries mutually. For instance, I found it beautiful when a farmer from the very south of New Zealand (who was very interested in contemporary history of Europe) literally couldn't wait to hear all about the life in the Czech Republic after the downfall of communism from us. And since he has never been behind the boarders of his own country this was a great and very authentic way for him to find out. And in return, he gave us a lecture on sheep shearing which I would have never thought I'll ever get familiar with!
I want more experiences like this for I always smile when I look back. But the chance to get them will be much higher if I spend time with locals and not if I stay in a hotel room cut off from the authenticity.
To sum it up, I think it is amazing to share. To share not only cultural experiences but also kindness, happinness, humour and smile. And Couchsurfing makes sharing very easy :)

It is hard to say which book is my most favorite but I like e.g. The world according to Garp, books by James Herriot, The Eqyptian by Mika Waltari and many, many other books.
