About Me

We love the outdoors which is why we live in Arizona. There are lots of adventures to have in Northern Arizona. We love meeting new people and entertaining them.

We like to bike, hike, run , water adventures, play board games, take photos, and build stuff. I speak Hebrew as a second language and Rachel speaks some Spanish. I shoot photography (www.mshpics.com). Lately I am focused on flying airplanes. I also enjoy being a radio show host on 97.1 FM and I also have a podcast: TheRingleaders. I would LOVE to interview you for about 20 minutes for both. (I have a small studio at the house).

Rachel loves cooking, hiking, board games and catching rays. We love sharing our meals. But plan on eating some gluten and peanuts! We eat a mostly Biblical diet (see Levitcus 11).

We have a private guest room with one queen bed and its own bathroom. and also a second guestroom with a shared bathroom.

PHILOSOPHY

Do unto others as you want them to do to you.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I traveled a lot in my life and I know what it is to experience good hospitality

We prefer guests who stay more than one night. There is more to do in Northern Arizona than just the Grand Canyon. Take time to check out Sedona, Jerome, Wupatki, Sunset Crater, Meteor Crater, lava river tubes, horse shoe bend, slot canyons, skiing/snowboarding, Oak Creek, Clear Creek, Paddle-boarding, Ft. Tuthill extreme course (zip lines and more), etc.. (If you show up on a warm summer day, be sure to have your swimsuit with you! and plan to come paddle boarding with us!)

Our home is about 3 miles south of downtown and about 2 miles north of the Airport. You MUST have a car (unless you are bicycling or running across country). Do not plan on Public Transportation or hitchhiking.

Music, Movies, and Books

Introduce us to your favorite tunes.
The first version of a movie is generally best.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

kayaked with dolphins in the Atlantic ocean.

Teach, Learn, Share

The WEST is HUGE... plan on lots of driving.

Buy a National Park Annual Pass ($80) at the first park you visit. It can also be used at BLM, Forest Service and Federal sites. (If you go to Sedona, it can be used instead of a Red Rock pass - just put it on your dashboard).

Flagstaff is at 7000 feet elevation, so plan on cold weather. (about 30F cooler than Phoenix). Even in the Summer, you need a jacket at night.

WhatsApp is NOT popular in the USA. I have it but rarely check it, so let me know if you want to communicate that way. Plan on texting or calling your hosts.

If you get a USA Sim card, try to get one from Verizon. They are the only company with good coverage. ATT, Sprint and T-Mobile does not work in our house and does not work well in remote areas.

Trains: The train from Flagstaff always seems to run late - often 4 hours or more. Trains in the middle of the USA use the freight train tracks and have to wait for the freight trains. The only place I recommend using the train is on the California coast or around NYC / Boston/ Northeast coast.
It is usually cheaper to rent a car than to take the train.

HITCHHIKING - much more difficult than it used to be. The Wuhan Virus ruined that.

What I Can Share with Hosts

When in Northern AZ, plan at least one day of Hiking in Sedona (or mountain biking). Northern AZ is the premiere mountain biking destination.

Do NOT plan on using public transportation. You need to have a car.
Generally car rentals are more expensive at airports ( airports often add an extra fee).
