About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I want to understand "home" as a status, not a place. I want to be at home around the world, and I want you to be at home in San Francisco.

ABOUT ME

I'm disguised as an all-American boy, born and raised in the Ohio you know and love. Revealed, I'm more clever than they expected. Show me beauty, make me laugh, startle my senses, and I will share my happiness with all.

PHILOSOPHY

Sharing respectfully means taking personal responsibility for the immediate environment. For example, if you see a mess, the respectful thing to do is to clean it; the less respectful thing is to point it out in the hopes that another person will clean it; a less respectful thing is to ignore it; the least respectful thing is to worsen it.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I haven't been too great at participating here on CS, but I'm trying to change that for 2013.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

In a way, I'm still new to the official CS community. But I've frequently used Facebook and good old fashion phone calls to reach out to friends for their couches during my travels throughout the years.

Interests

I like exploration, food, art, fire, people, movement, music, water.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like movies, music, and books. I don't like TV. There are some good shows I'll check out on DVD or the Internet, but I reeeeeeaaaalllllly don't like sitting in front of a television set and consuming commercial programming.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I saw somebody swinging a flaming cannon ball on a chain while standing on a stage illuminated by propane-fueled flames bursting from twelve-foot tall spires synchronized to dance music in the middle of the desert. No security, I could get as close as I dared, and I felt the heat from the various flames -- enormous flashes of heat when the music climaxed -- disorienting and magical. This was my first night out on the playa at Burning Man, 2008, at the Shiva Vista project.

Teach, Learn, Share

Hmm. I could show you how to make a hula hoop. I can show you all around San Francisco. I can show you around Black Rock City, but who couldn't?
