About Me

Like most people on this website, I love to travel. I was lucky enough to do a lot of travelling with my family as I was growing up -- mainly in Europe, Asia and Australia. (My first ever memory is of a giant Mickey Mouse trying to shake my hand in Disney Land when I was two years old. I got scared and started to cry.)

In 2010-2011 I travelled solo for ten months, mostly around Eastern and Mediterranean Europe, with a few Middle Eastern countries thrown in, too. I've also spent a lot of time in South East Asia -- one of my favourite parts of the world. I spent the first six months of 2013 travelling through Thailand, Myanmar, Nepal, India and Malaysia.

At the beginning of 2014 I started a Masters in Documentary (film & TV) and I'm studying full-time. I've also worked as a freelance editor and writer (mostly travel writing) and I run a little travel blog call The Melbourne Local. If you're interested, it's here: www.themelbournelocal.wordpress.com

Why I'm on Couchsurfing

Hosting, surfing, meeting up for coffees -- anything!

Writing. People-watching. Film. Literature. Politics. History. Photography. The arts. Music. Food. The world.

Music, Movies & Books

A few randomly chosen favourites of each...

Books: Lolita (Nabakov), Pride and Prejudice (Austen), In Patagonia (Chatwin), The Witches (Dahl), Of Mice and Men (Steinbeck), The Happy Prince (Wilde)...

Films: A Separation, Grizzly Man, Searching For Sugarman, On the Waterfront, Let the Right One In, Pan's Labyrinth, Gosford Park, It Happened One Night, Sunset Blvd, Fargo, Vertigo, All About Eve, Blade Runner...

Music: Anything that makes me feel, either emotionally or physically. Mostly folk (Dylan, Rodriguez, etc), jazz, blues, classical, 'world' (whatever that means...).

One Amazing Thing I've Done

Working as an extra on a TV series in Syria. Horse-riding and dancing the waltz wearing 19th-century costumes in 45-degree heat was definitely something to remember!

Teach, Learn, Share

If you need an English editor, writer or teacher, I can help.

I would love to learn your language -- lingual, cultural, personal.

Countries I've Visited

Australia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Croatia, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Italy, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Montenegro, Morocco, Myanmar, Nepal, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russian Federation, Serbia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syrian Arab Republic, Thailand, Timor-Leste (East Timor), Turkey, United Kingdom, Vatican City State, Viet Nam
