Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
We want to meet people from aroung the world to make our world cozier, happier, more humane, and better for everyone.
ABOUT ME
We are in our early 60s, both educated, and live in a very small town 7 miles east of Arcata, home of Humboldt State University (to which there is no reliable transportation, unfortunately). Our house is middle-sized, with 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, a library/formal dining room and living/ dining/kitchen area. We have 3 sons, but only one is still at home, living in a studio apartment on our lot. We are both upbeat, happy, and laid back and hope you are, too.
PHILOSOPHY
We are not religious, though we see ourselves as morally existentialist. We are a happy couple of people, grateful for our lives, filled with wonder at the beauty around us, and enjoying learning. We love to eat, drink wine, share a conversation. We also enjoy our privacy.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
We're just starting as participants and are looking forward to more guest(s). We want to have guests spend a night or two, and eventually we would like to spend a night or two with other hosts.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
We had our first guests recently and really enjoyed the experience. We are looking forward to meeting more travellers.

Music, Movies, and Books
Movies: French; independent; political; suspense; comedies; historical; really, anything not stupid.
Music: all genres: root, rock, jazz, classical, opera.
Books: a bit of what ever is out there.
Magazines: New Yorker, New York Times Book Review, London Book Review, Harper's, The Nation, Discovery.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
We've been to Europe a few times and loved it. We'd like to go back, especially to the Lorraine region in France and to northern Italy. Keith saw the moon rise over Half Dome many times; Mariel walked the hills behind Firenze; we ate the best meal ever in Salzburg; and we live on the edge of the United States in the most beautiful place in the world.
Teach, Learn, Share
We don't have specific talents or skills to share. We just offer our hospitality. We have 3 dogs, 2 cats, and 6 chickens, so we probably won't be the best place for people with major animal allergies.
Countries I’ve Visited
Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom
Countries I’ve Lived In
United States
