About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Guided by my own power doubled.

ABOUT ME

After receiving my B.S. in international business from Northeastern University, I worked at a start up management consulting firm specializing in innovation for the service sector. A growing interest in the role of technology in development brought me to the Communication, Culture, and Technology (CCT) program at Georgetown where my interests include technology and globalization, media for social justice, representation and intercultural communication. I spent the summer in the south of Ecuador (Vilcabamba) filming a documentary about the effects of foreign immigration and the resulting rising land prices on the local community. I plan on spending the rest of my time in graduate school creating a vocabulary and theoretical framework for this experience. And then, who knows.

PHILOSOPHY

I just returned from a mystical journey and am still trying to sort out everything I learned. I chatted with monkeys, winked back at the shooting stars, stood in the song-silence of the mountains. Being back in DC, I feel stranded between two worlds, but accept contradiction as part of the human experience. I believe in magic and abundance. I organize my life in order to dream and rely on intuition rather than experts. I speak a few languages, but my favorite one is dance. I bake bread and wear nonmatching socks as reminders of self-reliance and playfulness, respectively. I go to class. And read, a lot. I don't believe in promises of salvation through consumption, threats of consequences, or offerings of progress. I believe that we are very small. Smaller than a papaya seed. Smaller than an ant. Smaller even than the dust rising from the mercifully unpaved roads in places that are being mercilessly changed. I believe that numbers aren't meant for identification, but for meditation and interpretation. I am trying to learn the Mayan calendar because it makes more sense to me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I got a cow skull through customs in Mexico. THAT was pretty amazing!

Teach, Learn, Share

Remember the U-Curve Theory of cultural adaptation. Although it's been challenged academically, it has been a lifesaver for me when trying to adjust to new cultures, not only abroad but in starting new jobs, programs, etc.
